Andy Burnham

His job is less legitimate because he's sat around a table rather than on a building site?

They're a getting a mayor of Greater Manchester for their money. And the money isn't even a new spend, the mayor replaced the GM Police and Crime Commissioner post which also paid £100,000. It also replaces several other roles who presumably also had salaries attached to them.

Mayors set policy and strategy for local services. Every major city in the world has one, or sometimes several, people who do this. City mayors have existed for a couple of thousand years. Just like the Prime Minister sits at the head of the Cabinet, the Mayor is the head of the GMCA while the other council members are like the Cabinet.

Labour PR staff work in ministerial departments.

And an elected representative reacts to issues raised by the public who he represents and tries to do something about it? Well fuck me. Hang him. Obviously not doing his job in representing the public voice when he's .....errr..... representing the public voice.
Elected representative is that not what an mp. Is supposed to be?

Are you his fucking brother or something? Lol. The fella is an attention seeking twat . Never met anyone else who thinks otherwise tbh. Anyway enough of him we've got a game on this afternoon.

I've met literally hundreds of people who think otherwise.

That's mainly because I've met hundreds of people who have met him though.

Of course.

My point is that having a pop at an elected official for "following trends" is like having a pop at Pep Guardiola for standing next to the pitch during a game.

He's no doubt looking for his next bandwagon to jump on! I bet his advisers have told him to stay away from the coach attack due to his scouse heritage.

He was probably throwing bottles from the crowd.

In all seriousness what the fuck is he doing with the city centre?

It’s an utter cesspit and getting worse.

He should drive his latest bandwagon he is on arround the City Centre and pick up all the homeless people.

Not a lot of love on here for our democratically elected Mayor....

Probably because the reality is that most of them are beggars and not homeless so there's not a lot he can do. There is no need for people in Manchester to be homeless. There is housing stock available for people who need it. Trouble is too many people believe that anyone sat on a street is homeless and only a few would support police action in moving them on if indeed the police had the will to carry it out. In Liverpool the police seem to actively move on beggars and the problem is nowhere near as bad as in Manchester.

A lot of money is now available for roads. (Bradford Road will be closed from next week for resurfacing, they've actually planned it when City are not at home so fair play for that).
Next you will be saying not everyone who uses food banks are desperate.

Well as someone who works in the sector I have a decent idea of what's happening. Rather randomly I was just not five minutes ago reading on a social media group that a beggar who is outside Tesco in Failsworth was seen getting into a very nice car after his "shift" tonight!

Makes you wonder why local Mayors and Police Crime Commissioners were pushed onto folks - Oh I get it so central govt has some poor asap to blame for their failings - the quid pro quo being a big salary to take the flak.

That's mainly because I've met hundreds of people who have met him though.

I have met him several times an he is the most opportunist tw*t to ever walk this earth, typifies the breed who have never had a job but rather likes being on the public tit and will say or do anything to stay there.

Wow! This is some thread. I suppose seeing as it died well over a year ago people are now seeing him in a different light.

I have met him, nice bloke and very committed to improving the health of Mancunians. Health Innovation Manchester which I am involved with has his total backing and he takes a real interest in the work, rightly so as it is important. Its aim to be a world leader in the field is well under way and the model is looked on with envy and being copied across the UK.

Those who are against a mayor I take it are big fans of centralised government, what an oxymoron as some of the people who I recognise on the thread are right wingers and that has to be contrary to right wing ideology.

It is right we have a Mayor, a conurbation of Manchester's size needs a voice especially in this London centric country and he has done a good job using his office to get us all that voice. Of course there are areas he hasn't delivered as hoped, its hard when budgets are continually cut but at least we are being heard and plans to make the transport network better are in the pipeline. Homelessness is being tackled albeit it slowly and if you judge a City by how many cranes you see, Manchester is thriving economically.

I say this and he is probably a typical Blairite, I have no time for Blairites normally but Andy Burnham is good for the city and long may it continue. Manchester is a Labour city and it needs a Labour mayor.

Don't mind burnham and tbf is doing things that are not seen in the news.

However the **** hasn't re-regulated the buses, until I see GM buses back I will reserve judgement as that was a major commitmnet.

Also he should have told johnson to fuck off and banned the tory party from holding their confrence here.

Sickens me that a labour city like Manchester has these cunts here, would rather lose the money that stain my city with their presence

Spot on the Tories should be nowhere near our City, the hateful cunts.

I had forgot about the buses, black mark for that.

As a public transport user on all the main companies, the bus thing pisses me off.

Though burnhams not alone, my MP Azfal Khan said he would get a tram going through gorton, so the twat better hurry up before the GE ;-) although cannot blame him as the city was desperate for another route to media city and trafford, the 3 already is obviously not enough
