I find this somewhat hard to believe given that his brother, Nick, doesn't have a fencing company and instead is a schoolteacher. Well actually he's now the Principal of Cardinal Newman College, a Roman Catholic Sixth Form school in Preston but you get the idea.

He's certainly turned into a career politician - which surprised me at first, because he didn't seem at all politically ambitious when I worked with him, we just chatted shit about football most of the time - and it's true he hitched onto Blair, but anyone with ambitions in Labour politics did back then, but he wasn't a Blairite like Purnell was. Purnell worked for Blair for years before he even became leader of the Labour party. Burnham came from more of the soft left, Kinnock ideology.

Seems like a lot of the cynicism is actually directed at the institution of the mayor. Didn't realise it hadn't been voted for. Thought it would be popular. Don't think anyone in London thinks having a London mayor is a bad thing. Gives a city or region a focus. Wish we had one, but unfortunately would probably end up with a Tory.

Unfortunately street homelessness is on the rise everywhere and it's a tough nut to crack once it's taken hold. It's a huge problem here in Brighton and has risen exponentially in the last 6-7 years, but I don't think you can look too far beyond a perfect storm of central government policy and absurd private rental costs/demands as the direct cause.

He's from Warrington. Does that make him a scouser? Thought it was just as much a hinterland of Greater Manchester as Liverpool, but maybe I'm wrong. He's certainly an Evertonian, but at least he isn't a red dipper. Bit unfair of someone to accuse him of jumping on the Hillsborough campaign. He was key to the eventual outcome, and if he does nothing else in politics then that alone is a decent epitaph.

This, self entitled. Burnham and his helpers rewrote his wiki page so it the staffs health care cricis that he was health sec didn't reflect badly on him. He's had himself photo shopped into charity awards presentations when he wasn't present. The man is totally vile. Would turn up to the opening of an envelope if he thought it would get him some publicity.
