It depends which strand of Socialism.

Burnham is a mix of Democratic Socialist and Social Democrat. He could well satisfy both wings of the Labour party, If he did that and the Tories carry on with that mindless moron in charge who knows. He is obviously not as left wing as I would like but he is left wing enough for me to consider to voting Labour and he is not as that left wing that the Blairites might consider voting for him too.

He certainly could not be as bad as Johnson, but then again a Lamppost with a silly hat on would be better than Johnson and so would Colin my cactus plant. Colin definitely has more morals and more intellectual rigour than the vacuous limpit Johnson.
 
It is actually not against any rules for the leader of the party to be in westminster or to be an MP.

Burnham could challenge starmer and become leader if he wished, until he coupd re-enter parliament either through a by-election/GE or a peerage if lobbied for one, then tge deputy leader would lead the opposition in the hpuse debates much like Blackford does for the SNP

He is electable (and proven to be so) ... and lest we forget we have elected 100% of former mayors who have run for PM ;)

It doesn’t matter how bad the Tory leaders are unless Labour can attract that middle ground they won’t win power. Fuck me look at May, adored in Parliament but broadly mocked outside of it, didn’t campaign, what she did say alienated her core voter group, and yet she somehow managed to win (by the skin of her teeth granted). Burnham’s stance on not locking down the city might not play so well in the shires though. It will play well to the left who will applaud him for taking it to the man. Maybe his time is after the next election, I’m struggling to see how Sir K will win - he is a bit of a one trick pony of “do more” which is fine for the first couple of times but when it is repeated verbatim it’s a bit of a turn off.

He was elected by 62% of those that voted in GM irrespective of what he does, and your opinion of what he does is just that - an opinion that bears little resemblance to reality.
 
He has had two chances, I can't see what he would bring to deserve a third. Doesn't really bring a big vision or policy outlook with him, a good regional politician but not up to the standard to be PM, not that I think Starmer is showing himself to be at the moment. With his temper tantrum last week and hint of alcohol dependency.

Clive Lewis would be a better candidate.
