Yet another over-hyped English player going for an excessive fee. If he was from somewhere else he'd be around 6/7mil tops, but as he's English it's double.

I agree with the people stating West Ham could have got a better player for a lot less than they've paid (both £15 mil fee and then his vast wages).. strange decision agreeing to give him a 100k week contract for 6 years too (especially if his injury record continues... could prove a costly signing).

Then again he'll probably be injury free and score a hat full just to prove me wrong!

For a start, Dzeko scored 14 last year in 32 games (only 16 starts). Carroll got 7 in 26 (22 starts).

Agreed.

Carroll is 24 and has just passed 50 career goals. At the same stage in his career Dzeko had well over 100 - nearly all in the top flight in Germany. He's now scored 40 for us. We're a better team, so will score more goals, but he's had much more competition for his place and has spent most of his time here as second/third choice.

With Carroll's drinking it wouldn't be a surprise if he's already knocked a few years off his career, so I'm not convinced he's got a huge future.

Still, it's possible he'll get a little confidence back and score 10-15 goals a season for the next 3-4 years - and that's probably worth 15m these days!

They are paying him 5mil a year, I don't see the value. They won't qualify for Europe(most likely) and they won't go down with or without him(in my opinion). So I don't see why they don't buy a cheaper player on less wages cos if Fat Sam goes they could be stuck with him for years like us with Adebayor, Bridge etc

It strikes me as an awful lot of money for a pretty limited player

If we want to progress then we have to make these steps.

Olympic Stadium is ours, we have secured Adidas as a manufacturer, we have the right manager, we have a solid squad... if there is any time to splash out on a class player it is now.

Really, mark he is no more than fucking average and the only time he scored figures anywhere near the level of 5 mil a year wages was an 18 month spell (1yr in the championship) was over 2 years ago. I suppose you will be telling me that Kevin Nolan could get into the Brazil 1970 side next. Face it this deal is Davenport, Dean Ashton, Benni McCarthy and our very own Michael Johnson all rolled into one.
