Andy Welsh Sacked

I realise that the bar has been raised by the first team but I still think that Hughes set our youth set up back light years and we are still feeling the impact of it. From an outsiders point of view there seems to be to many non football specialists feathering their own nests at the cost of the greater good of the club.

Spot on, I posted at the time the long term damage the numpty was doing at that level (And got a load of shite from the now missing numpty lovers ), hopefully we can now rebuild the staff to support the first team set up with a path from youth level upwards.

I have pretty much got this info from the man himself who has already been offered and accepted the job. Mancini pushed for this because he wants a greater link between himself and the eds with its squad getting better and better and to have his best friend as manager is ideal for him. Not sure when the announcement will be but it is nailed on.
This to me sounds like a 'Job for the boys' appointment. City seem to have stagnated in the last few seasons in terms of the youth development. I realise that the bar has been raised by the first team but I still think that Hughes set our youth set up back light years and we are still feeling the impact of it. We want to be a world class club and certainly the facilities that are been made are world class, but more importantly we need world class football people to fill the roles of coaching our kids from the earliest possible opportunity till the reach the first team squad and beyond.

I can't decide from this if you're in favour of Lombardo's appointment or not.

To me, it makes perfect sense for the reserve / youth team coach to be someone the manager knows well and trusts fully. The relationship between these two surely has to be one of the most important of all at any club, in order for said club to be able to develop its own young talent into players capable of stepping up to first-team level.

Brilliant. Something seemed wrong. I can understand why Mancini wants to be tight with the EDS.

-- Sat Jul 07, 2012 6:33 am --

It makes sense with the onset of the new under-21 league: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...designed-to-rescue-England-football-team.html. Not sure when that comes into being, but there should be a seamless path allowing the best kids to step up from under-18 into the under-21s, where the job is to prepare them to progress into the first team.

Makes sense to have someone in that role who's close to the manager, knows what he wants and can instill it into the players under his charge.

PS - In my post above, I forgot to say that the scouting network needs some recruitment as well, given that we've lost two scouts (Hunter and Fellows, IIRC) to Liverpool this summer. Part of the remit of Rigg's replacement, I assume.
This. Well said.

Marwood next?

why?

Marwood is criticised by some on here, but I'd be surprised if he were fired given that he was singled out for particular and quite fulsome praise in Khaldoon's post-season official site interview.Don't see Khaldoon saying what he did if Marwood's position was under threat.

Interesting that Lombardo is going to coach the EDS now. Maybe a battle won by Mancini, getting his man in there rather than someone appointed without his input?

There is, of course, still a vacancy at Technical Director as well given the departure of Mike Rigg, which was announced before the end of the season. Lele Oriali, who had that role at Inter when Mancini was there, was linked to us a while back after Mancini commented positively about him in the media. Wonder if he might be a candidate.

Also, wasn't Welsh was the senior football person at the Academy as well as coaching the EDS? Mark Allen, nominally the Head of the Academy, was recruited as the club's head of HR and is more an administrator, I think. So presumably there'll be a new recruit alongside him, specialising in youth coaching.

I have followed Citys fortunes and I have no idea who the guy is,do we need them?

I think Mike Rigg was what used to be called in old money the Chief Scout. IIRC, when Hughes brought him to City, that's what Rigg's job title was. His role may have been redefined or expanded later when his new title was awarded, but I don't remember that ever being discussed publicly so it's just conjecture.

But, yes, I presume that we would need someone doing the job he did and that a replacement is on the way this summer.
