Angelino

Angelino played as an attacking wide/mid the other night & was the most dangerous player on the NY team. (That's not the biggest compliment, as the rest were utter dogshit & Lampard/Pirlo, should be ashamed).

He really can deliver a ball at top level. That's TOP level, ie his delivery was way better than Lampard or Pirlo. He was also seen as enough of a threat that the oppo often doubled up on him. On the big downside, the energy we are used to seeing from him back here has pretty much gone. He does it from time to time, but he was perpetual motion for City. Over there, I could often criticise him for not covering enough ground quickly enough (not something I would ever even have dreamed saying about Angelino). He wasn't getting into scoring positions when the ball was out wide on the other side (always would for City, whatever role he played) & was often jogging, watching, when the ball was potentially winnable, rather than flying in & challenging or simply holding up the oppo, as he would here, every time.

Whether it's simply down to fatigue as a young player getting so many games, or whether it's something else, I have no idea, but he's not currently the Angelino we know. But the talent is clearly still there & it's obvious there is much more talent there than we are seeing.

Watching NYC, what does become apparent is that it is very far from an easy ride sending a kid there. It's a real physical test, more like playing in the Championship, possibly harder. That's not just down to the athleticism involved, it's also harder, playing with a bunch of absolute clueless mugs, with athletes on the oppo.

Pirlo & Lampard are struggling like fuck. They are truly awful. It's too fast for them, because they have to do more stuff themselves, rather than relying on others to make the runs for them, & they have quick, aggressive players closing them down quickly. They have no 'out' ball & have no ability other than playing 'out' balls, so currently, both are screwed. Some of their passing is horrible.

This must be the same difficulty for Angelino, used to having 5 or 6 passing options, now has one, or often none. Then there is the question as to whether this is good or bad for him. I would say that depends on the individual player & his mentality. SWP at 18, for instance would score 50 goals & run rings round everybody. Stephen Ireland at 18, would retire.

Feel sorry for Angelino. Isn't his fault that club is dire. NYCFC could have used their DP signings and allocation money a hell of a lot better. Just getting some younger, MLS experienced talent would have made all the difference.

They'll get it right eventually.

I'm not sure the manager is fully capable of playing the way the City group want teams to play. Either let him do it his way, with his players, or bring in a manager who is more at home with the style. Not fair on him this way imo. There are several academy players who could move there together under the right manager & have a big effect on the way the team plays. Benefitting both clubs.

Noticed the energy thing to re Angelino. That all action game has seemingly faded. It was there in his first two appearances though. He was lightning, dashing forward and backwards with a real vigour. It's definitely phased out a little frustratingly. Increasingly coming around to the idea that the MLS, well NYCFC's team in particular, isn't particularly good for him. Playing amongst such clueless shite can only be demoralising. Bad habits galore in that team and i worry theyll rub off on him.

What people have to take into account is that sometimes the heat is very repressive over there. The last couple of games I watched them play it was blazing hot, so maybe he is just conserving energy where needed.

That's certainly true, but there's conserving energy & then just not being 'at it'. To me he was hanging around in situations where he really needed to be busting a gut to get involved.

They bought DP's who put them on the map. Lampard and Pirlo are more important off the pitch than on it.

Regards energy he hasn't had a break, finished with us then went into a full pro season for the first time. i have no doubt the guy just needs a couple weeks to recover and recharge, he'll have some very interesting offers coming his way soon with the performances he's put in

"Off the pitch?" What? In setting up a Social Security office? The NYFC fans would have been there without those two overpriced has beens.... that club's player acquisition policy has been a joke. The joke of the MLS in fact.

They are setting up a new club and trying to bring in fans and raise profile. Signing. A few european journeyman who may be better players today than Lampard or Pirlo wouldn't do that.

The fact Bradley Wright Phillips is a star over there and couldn't get in a league 1 team - now that's a joke.
