Please note that I'm not saying that we had let go our youth player for free and he beame a new Messi after leaving us or smth, but as they say, young players would progress quicklier should they have better players around/vs them. I'm talking about Marcos Lopes (who has had some problems with gametime due to injuries), Denis Suarez, Karim Rekik (who was considered to be one of the best young CBs inthe 1st half of the season in Ligue 1), etc etc etc. They may not be top class players but they're still young, they have some outstanding qualities and they are clearly talented and have room to develop. if not have them in our team if they're not ready, then loan them out in a better league. Step by step. Not till they're 30 of course.

Clearly you're just making things up because not only is he failing to hold down a place in the Marseilles team, he's been considered awful. The only reason he plays at all is because their other CB, Rolando, is equally shit.

As a french journalist for RMC said recently, "Rekik or Rolando? What is the most serious between the plague and cholera?"

The same goes for Lopes, who had small injury problems, but mostly just wasn't good enough to make it off the bench.

Well, sad for Karim then. Saw him on goalcom Ligue 1 young team of the 1st half of the season. Anyway, I don't think they (Lopes&Rekik) said their last word.

I outed Rekik as being dodgy several years ago.

Lopes is not the same at all, he is a great talent. That doesn't mean he'll make it, but he is a really great talent.

Don't like the idea that Barca are sniffing if thats genuine, can't imagine many spainish players passing on that opportunity. However I do think under Pep Angelino will really flourish, it's under appreciated how much better players become defensively under him as many focus entirely on the goals scored, and thats what most of us think he lacks right now. If Angelino develops defensively he'll be a seriously good left back.

I agree mate.

I think the only think stopping Angelino getting game time is his lack of experience defensively.

Going forward and attacking I think he could play in the team now.

Let's see what happens next season.

Lopes scored for LOSC in a cup game today -

just throwing this in somewhere on the youth side of the forum

I think everyone agrees that Angelino has still got to prove himself defensively so why cant he be played as a winger? We are desperate for him to be a LB because that's what the team really needs at the moment, but maybe we should be giving him a chance as a winger to see how he does with that. He's fast, he has a fantastic cross in his locker, and the boy can score. Maybe he would be wasted as a LB. Lets not try and squeeze a square peg in a round hole.

He's always been a LB, apart from the occasional game, so I don't see how that's making him a square peg. He's simply a classic attacking fullback. You might as well ask the same question about Kolarov.

True and maybe he would be better as a LB but just because he's always been a lb so far that's no reason to keep him there. At 19, Bale had only ever been a LB if I'm not mistaken

Angelino played several games for NYC as a left mid & was rated by the commentators as their most potent attacking threat, although imo he was looking rather tired by that point in the season & didn't track back with his customary vigour.

He is a good footballer & we should try him in different roles imo, if he one day gets a chance. It may be he struggles at fullback but makes an impact elsewhere.
