I've been saying for a very long time that the extreme caution displayed by Pellegrini and his coaches towards our youngsters is 100% wrong. They're as good as they can be at that age. They're all fantastically confident footballers, a genuinely fantastic bunch. Angelino proved exactly that last night with his confidence, technique and poise. He looked better than more or less everyone on the pitch - and he's not the only one capable of doing that. Ambrose is, Barker is, Maffeo is, Bryan is, Iheanacho is, Celina is. Byrne is etc etc. He and a few others should have been rewarded with their progress last year with some minutes on the pitch during a cap game or as a late sub. Genuinely criminal that they weren't. Yeah, he's not the finished product but we simply have to encourage these kids to take the next step as we could save ourselves a fucking fortune in the transfer market if we do.

Hopefully this will be the year that that happens.

I think we should use NYCFC as a minor league like baseball or continental B teams. If they succeed, move them. What's great about MLS is that it goes during the summer, so we can give them a month break and have them in the team by November to fill in squad gaps.

Loans to Spain are good, and being in the City squad is better, but if they aren't getting game time it's a waste. Example: Zuculini

Wouldn't actually mind Zuculini going to NYCFC for a bit, his game would only be helped by playing alongside Pirlo and Lampard.

Having said that, I'm not even sure he would get in their team!

Bit of an enigma is Zuculini, looked the part last pre-season but flopped miserably at both valencia and cordoba.

Yeah he wouldn't beat out Lampard or Pirlo. Maybe Mix, but he's currently their best mid and a starter on the men's national team.

Pretty much any decent CB, winger, AM or second striker could walk into that team though. Barker would be ideal.
 
Even living in the US I'm not a huge fan of watching MLS; however, yesterday I tuned in because I knew Facey was starting and Angelino was listed as a sub. As everyone has said above, the 18-year-old looked very confident out there and he does seem bigger than I originally thought.

While Angelino impressed, Shay Facey did the opposite. I've heard that he's been somewhat of a bright spot for an underwhelming NYCFC but he and the other center half looked miserable yesterday, Giovinco had a hat trick in the first half and they let in 4 all together. 1 was a penalty, but they missed another penalty. Anyhow, Angelino looks great. Hopefully a good summer in New York can be followed with a loan to a championship side and he should be ready for the first team in 16/17.

I thought Facey was an out and out right-back? Have they moved him over?
 
Facey played cb and was not good, they got run ragged by a little Italian who scored a brilliant first half hattrick. If he was one of ours we would all be milking ourselves

Facey wasn't good but to be fair that "little Italian" is Sebastian Giovinco who has played for Juventus and been capped for the Italian national team over 20 times.
 
The defense will be atrocious as long as Wingert is on the pitch. Absolutely abysmal. Feel bad for Facey having to play alongside him at times. Now on to Angelino.

It's is a testament to the EDS how polished he looked. You can just tell when a player is confident. He looked great. The 1 time he was called offside, he put in a cross on the half-volley that was on a rope about a meter off of the ground. Unfortunately he was offside, so it didn't get the credit it deserved. I love the idea of the MLS giving our youth a chance to play in front of big crowds in big stadiums, with stakes on the line. I think we will see him in the Etihad in a couple years.

little italian LOL. He's Sebastian Giovinco once touted as the next big thing in italy.
