Angelino

Not sure what the plan is there but relying on a combo of Mendy, Angelino, and Zinchenko at LB would be a mistake.

I know Ake and Cancelo can play there but still. We could really use a proper, reliable LB.

Hopefully we will get Tagliafico. 27 yo, and I don’t think I’ve been so impressed with a leftback in a long time. Incredible headers in set-pieces, fast, strong and great cross. I think he cost like 20-30m max.

28 in 2 weeks unfortunately.

I mean if the club/Pep is not convinced then would have they have told him already right? I mean why would the club waste a good amount of assured money (since Leipzig favours him) in bringing him in. It cannot be solely his wish alone to return and fight.

We wouldn't of loaned him out mid season if he was fully part of the team and Angelino wouldn't of been itching for a move out.

I would bring this kid back without blinking an eye.

Has looked very competent for RB in the latter stages of the CL.

Has more intelligence in his little toe than Mendy and is better offensively than Zinchenko.

Young enough to get even better too.

He had a similar spell at PSV didn't look convincing the first time when he came back.

Of course injuries have been a major however he did have talent when we had signed him.

It remains still the same if he did return. If Pep really rated him he would be in the side right now and not for us having to rely on an out of position RB slotting in (although thats not promising for Mendy either).

So, are you advocating that we should pin our hopes on Mendy recovering fitness? He’s now missed eighty-five(...85) games for us through injury and more through having to be rested. The manager has probably reconciled himself to the idea that Mendy is never going to be reliable, so we need another plan. He just needs to rate Angelino as more dependable than Mendy.

Yeah I kind of see your point...If what you are saying is true then Angelino is trying to force in a move with us to fight for his place...then he could have done already that in January itself. My way of thinking if Pep (unless the club is not agreeing with Pep here) don't want him he would have been reliably informed and we would have got a good amount for him. Also if city is still not convinced with him, why would he leave a top club + starting position at a top German club to again start at square zero?

If Pep isn't prepared to play him then what is the point. Better off moving him on and I am not totally convinced Angelino is the answer either.

A LB signing plus Mendy (although we will off load next summer as he isn't going to recover sufficently) /Cancelo. If an EDS steps up as part of the squad then great.

I am a bit sceptical of bringing Angelino back, i think if we play with 3 Cb with him as a wing back, he would be great. If he played as a left back in a back four, he can definitely be exposed as he is not the greatest defender.

Mendy on the other hand can go for me. Couldn't trap a bag of cement at the best of times and the only thing he was good at (crossing a ball), he seems like he can't do that now either. I would put my house on Liverpool's new signing Tsimikas being a better signing than Mendy and he cost like a quarter of the price.

Still can't quite understand why we didn't just sign Tierney for half the price of Mendy. What a shocking signing he has been for us. Maybe i am being harsh as he has had two bad injuries, but its just frustrating that we can't lock down that LB position and haven't been able to do so since the Sheikhs bought the club. Clichy is about our best left back and he only provided around 2 good seasons for us at best.

For short/medium term Tagliafico from Ajax or Alex Sandro (but again he is more short term and expensive). Prehaps Rayan Ait-Nouri but another raw kid might not be the right choice for now. I forgot about Alaba but thats a non starter as he is not interested in a move to us. Other than that there is a shortage of left backs.

Every time I see Angelino on a football pitch I think ..where's snow white and the other six? ...

Good player, and would probably cost €25m. That said, we presumably scouted him before signing Mendy and passed. Further, if we were in for him, I think that deal would have been done by now, compare Ake and Torres, as Ajax know he has two years on his contract and are willing to sell. As such, more likely to be heading to Leicester or Chelsea depending on whether the latter prefers Chilwell.

Sandro would be very expensive and turns 30 in January and Ait-Nouri is very much a work in progress. Angers are looking for €30m, so the same as what were looking for from RBL for Angelino, who has just played in a CL semi-final.

If we’re dropping £100m on centre backs, and signing Torres and Aouar, we’ll need to make savings somewhere, which is why Angelino makes more sense.

It would make sense if we would played him regularly and we do play wing backs more regularly (Angelino's strongest position). Angelino's problem isn't a lack of playing time but being comfortable in Pep's system. He didn't look like he was during his spell no matter how short it seemed.

That’s not many especially when you point out significant flaw in getting them

If we have to choose between getting a LB or getting Auoar I'd sign a full-back in the blink of an eye. What's the expected value of Aouar's deal?

I don't mind having him TBH. Home grown and club grown so he's not really taking anyone's place in the team. He's serviceable to say the least. He's great going forward. He's terrible in defense, but who of our current LB options isn't?

If he wants to fight for his place, then let him.
