Another Bellingham Saga

Zwayer at that time was a 22-year-old linesman and it was the referee Hoyzer that was making the deals with a betting syndicate. There is not much known about his circumstances he was in then - but he helped to bring down Hoyzer and that syndicate later on.

I just can imagine that as a young linesman it is a difficult time to "go against your boss" - especially if you might not really trust the people that are his superiors or you think they do not believe you... Zwayer fine was to be barred from football for 6 months - but after that was allowed to start again and make his referee career.

A lot of this was kept secret until 10 years after that when the newspaper Zeit was having an article about it - but Zwayer himself never talked about his role in that.

Oh, we can discuss if Zwayer is a good referee and if we like all of his calls - but rolling up a story from 17 years ago that we (and especially he) do not know anything about?

Bellingham is a young lad - but even with that he has to be held responsible for things that he said. There is things that is understandable in the heat after matches - but the choice of words is important, too.

------------------------------

At the end both calls probably were right. In the Hernandez foul on Reus Haaland probably was offside - and the handball for Hummels was justified enough. But you can always question the media especially Sky here who tried to cook the controversies, too.
Sky trying to stir up controversy?

You’d never see that here!

;-)

You're taking a really stupid position here because you've been told Zwayer was involved in match fixing.

It would be far more accurate to say that he was involved in uncovering match fixing.

He was given €300 by a referee. Then he raised his concerns about this to other referees and he along with 3 others went to the DFB and reported him for match fixing. His evidence and the €300 bribe were used in turning the bent referee, Hoyzer, against the betting syndicate and other corrupt referees leading to their arrest.

He took the money because he didn't know what to do in that moment, but his performance was looked at and he had a fair game, he didn't follow any orders.

After the dust settled, they gave him a short ban for taking the money and going to other referees for advice first, as the correct procedure is to just reject everything and report it immediately.

soon as you take the money its over ? unless you was a under cover cop or working with them.
you took the money first and foremost then questioned it so i would be hard to prove your innocent.
smells of panic and he blew the whistle to save his own back

like i said was your dirty washing as been made public the stains stick and players will question you every time a dodgy pen or sending off happens ? but the German league is run by munich and they get the rub of the green on everything with the match officials and the governing body

when manchester city win titles its so sweet because we never get any help in games
he's worked at 2 of the big clubs in europe and in there own leagues so he knows what he is talking about

Zwayer famously didn't give Bayern a penalty in the Cup final that Dortmund won in May.

Are you taking the piss mate? I applaud your attempt at blatant wummery.

You sound like a lawyer in a cheap suit with that remark ;)
No, I'm serious.

Imagine you're a 22 year old rookie. Some very senior referee comes up to you and says a gang are fixing the match take this and shut up, it's pretty scary to say no. He should have come forward immediately, but that's one of the reasons people get coerced into taking money like this, Hoyzer the main ref gave him 1% of his take to implicate him in this and stop him reporting anything.

He didn't fix the match, the DFB confirmed this when they had to go through all the effected games and analyse every refereeing decision.

I think the fact they showed he didn't fix the match means it's not over. He didn't do the action the bribe demanded.

That's why he's still a ref.

Anyway Dortmund really need to shut up about this, it was the 15th match he's refereed them since the world found out about this, and they had no issues with any of the previous 14.

You can't go around accusing a referee of match fixing the match you just played in with no ounce of evidence.
