exactly - just heard a guy who's job it is to negotiate trade deals on the radio say its a daft trick - just giving the enemy firing squad a wall to back you on to.
Hang on a minute. All the expert negotiators on here think we've got a professional team in place with a bold assertive leader. We couldn't possibly be lining ourselves up a shit negotiating position could we?

Heineken is brewed by John Smiths in Tadcaster.

Guinness is brewed in Dublin (after the closure of the Park Royal Brewery in 2005). However it is owned by Diageo So they may move some production back to the UK.

San Miguel is brewed under licence by Carlsberg in Northampton.

oh no so you mean international companies can get round the eu barrier by licensing into the eu , or forming a subsidiary in the eu and trade from that base around the eu. That’s how all these US companies must do it hey ?

3 years on and they still think they have their fingers on the pulse lol

At what point do you think "hang on, i keep getting virtually every single political prediction wrong, maybe i should stop pretending I'm an expert"?
What about those of us who have predicted which way the public are going to vote (Thursday was of zero surprise to me) but still think it's the dumbest idea a major power has had since that adolf fella thought it would be a good idea to invade Russia? Just because people vote for it doesn't suddenly make it a good idea. Anyway, it's happening, and it's the brexiters in charge of it, so when it goes completely tits up because Johnson and co have zero interest in fully understanding the task they have in front of them, at least those of us on blue moon can flip the tables and it will be us telling you lot, we fucking told you so.

Never before has this meme been so apt:

The EU said it was non-negotiable, done, finished, the negotiators had gone home, no possibility whatsoever of opening up the WA. But when faced with a man with a threat who looked like he was prepared to use it, they changed their tune.

Of course it wasn't a huge renegotiation but that's not the point. It demonstrates (not that any demonstration should be necessary) that parties make public statements about all sorts of positions which are very far from the truth, but that they may climb down from those positions if forced to do so. And of course they will not if they don't have to.

And this was achieved with Boris with one arm tied behind his back by an idiotic parliament legally removing any "no deal" option.

If he goes into the FTA negotiations on the basis of "we are gone December 31st 2020 come what may", then he will secure the best possible deal. And if he positions us as being prepared to extend or concede on various points, then extension and concession is what we will get. It's negotiation 101, it really is.

And that's all fine. There's still an issue with the framing of it though in that the EUs very good deal they had with May still allowed them a fall back to a still acceptable position for them, which is why they were fine with Varadkar sorting it out directly with Johnson. Johnsons public position (and Mays before him) was that there absolutely wouldn't be a border on the Irish Sea. He fell back from that position in order to get his agreement.

That can still be argued as per your second paragraph, in that "parties make public statements about all sorts of positions which are very far from the truth, but that they may climb down from those positions if forced to do so". It never seems to be mentioned that that is exactly what Johnson did, only that the EU were perceived to because of a threat of no deal.

The other thing to mention is it's still an acceptable position to the EU as ultimately they were happy as long as Varadkar was - they still haven't broken any of their red lines at all, only given up what they weren't expecting in the first place. I'm sure plenty of people are also happy with Johnsons deal too, there are still some that think him being the head of the "Conservative and Unionist Party" should still mean something though...

Looks like BoJo and his backers have been selling sterling since the election win. Now need to 'buy it back' at a much lower price, cue BoJo announcing no extension going into the legislation. And so it continues.
Meanwhile, democracy moves on a pace as Zac Goldsmith is being made into a Lord, joining Nicky Morgan and staying in Government. Unelected officials being swept away quicker than you can say oven ready Brexit..

Is there a link for the story about sterling? (Not Raheem)
