Another new Brexit thread

If we accept that the 2016 ref was essentially a 50/50 result - maybe only tipped in the favour of leave by posters, things on the side of a bus and racism, with a similarly close GE when May had to employ the DUP to form a govt (another inconclusive vote either way in brexit terms) how did we then get from there to BJ' thumping 80 seat majority based purely on the 'get brexit done' tag line?.

"Get Brexit Done" - Classic Dom.

It looks like the only credible options are no deal which is so bad then we should revoke/remain or just revoke / remain? It's really clear when it's put like that. We could do with getting rid of the current govt (starting with BJ and Cummings) so we can get Starmer in to explain the logic of this to the population.
The economy is fucked by Covid-19 as is the EU's. Vast amounts of money have to be spent to get it going again. The additional amounts required to deal with a No-Deal outcome are a mere bagatelle in comparison. Also borrowing a bit extra won't screw the UK economy either. Extending transition on the other hand may be very, very expensive.
The EU on the other hand are facing complete disaster unless badly hit states can spend money.

Now that we’ve established on the Johnson thread that for some people getting Brexit done takes precedence over having a competent government that would have a better chance of saving British citizens’ lives, the fanaticism is clear and obvious. Reasoned discussion is pointless.
That's pretty desperate.

Support for a No Deal type scenario has very little public support. How can Johnson spin this when the reality of no deal hits home. 22% support is the starting point and I would suggest that it will drop away once the reality hits - especially the idea that you would do this amid a pandemic instead of agreeing an extension. If Johnson does this then every negative impact will be seen in the light of the fact that Johnson rejected any prospect of an extension in favour of the deadline he alone set.

No deal is far superior than EU suzerainty.

No they haven't. They have asked for what Canada got. The EU are the ones who seemingly want a super super deal but don't want to accept the UK being a sovereign state.

No. We have asked for something much more than Canada especially with regard to services and security. The Govt tells you it’s like Canada and then publish the details which are nothing like Canada.

You should read the details and stop listening to Govt propaganda. The Govt tells you they are driving to Barnard Castle to test out their eyesight. The reality is that it was a birthday jaunt for the wife.

A lot of talk about punting negotiations into next year. Presume there will be some basic deal to keep Dover open etc. Service Industries will be fucked though.

‘Barnier deputy @DejmekHack at @HesseninEuropa event. Tone of talks 'a little bit more rude' now. 'Can expect no extension of transition' and 'can't negotiate up to Dec 31' due to ratification time. 'Will continue negotiating next year' on unfinished areas.’ @Gutteridge/Sun
