Another new Brexit thread

Again, this contains the ‘Could haves’ that are a feature of this discussion.
A detailed post from Mozzarelli lists numerous breaches from the EU, that appears to have been ignored, as it’s slightly embarrassing. Parliament can amend any treaty it deems against British interests, it has done exactly that.
The ECJ is now irrelevant to this country, it is a construct of an organisation we’re no longer a part of, this is simply EU posturing, let’s see if they attempt to go further.

Parliament doing that is a breach of international law and is also unconstitutional as well.

You’re arguing from a political position not a legal one.

An even smaller part lost this argument, but many of that minority won’t accept that fact, and have been championing the EU’s interests over ours.
Things are coming to a head now, all will be finalised very soon.

I don’t know anyone championing the EU’s interests over ours to be fair, they’re arguing that what we are doing aren’t in our best interests.

I don’t really understand the logic if people are doing that though. This is politics, not football. If the party people want to get in don’t, then that shouldn’t stop them wanting the other party to do well as it has a direct influence on their life.

That’s also why any criticism shouldn’t just be shot down too. The dumbing down of politics is as evident in the populace as it is in Westminster at the minute. I suppose it’s a case of getting what we deserve ultimately...

It might well be that the various nightmare scenarios that have been mooted may well not come to pass, I think we all hope not. Even if they don't though, the way this government is approaching the trade negotiations and, let's face it, everything else since June 2016 will have the effect of making everyones life a little more difficult. There is literally nothing, in terms of our relationship with mainland Europe, that will not be made harder to accomplish in 2021 that it has been for the previous 35.
I appreciate that for some any price is worth paying and no cost is too high for that feeling of living (some of the time) in a free sovereign state but for the rest, those that were just a bit fed up of what they perceived to be unnecessary interventions in the way they lived their lives, how long will it take before the filling in all those extra forms or the kenneling the dog instead of taking it on holiday with them will force them to wonder whether they voted wisely in the referendum or in subsequent general elections?
If someone even contemplated the hassle for them and their dog in the vote they made then I really hope they have to write a bloody essay every time they leave the bloody house never mind the country.

Well they wouldn’t have because no one said it would be a problem. Point is every interaction with mainland Europe will be harder and the point at which people will feel that will be different. So if you want to take your dog on holiday to France it will be more of a pain than it was. If you want to bring parts in for your car plant that will be hard too. Because everything will be harder. There must have been people that voted to leave because of underpowered vacuum cleaners or prawn cocktail crisps who though that life would get easier once we were outside of the EU. I was wondering when they might realise that it won’t.

People think about all sorts of shit and by the way dogs were mentioned, as was coffee at Pret, filling out a visa form(30 secs while you’re on a flight lasting hours). Both sides came out with all sorts of shite.

The thing is all these hassles will be ironed out eventually because it’s in everyone’s interest to do so. This is about the long term future and people whatever their stance should be looking at that not the inconvenient months or a few years ahead.

Remember there is nothing stopping anyone in the future running on a platform of rejoining the EU. Those who have desperately tried to scupper a democratic vote will come again. Ironically they will be relying on a process that they showed so much disdain for.

I fail to see how you or I can look beyond the hassle when there has been zero vision for how any long term future might pan out beyond some tub thumping believe in Britain type rhetoric. The hassle will definitely happen as you concede, I am merely wondering how long people will put up with it before they start to wonder if they did the right thing. I am certain there will be a campaign to rejoin and yes they will have to use the only democratic tools at their disposal to achieve that. I reckon people will look a little more closely at the small print if such a campaign got as far as securing a vote on it.

How can you plan for a long term future when we want one thing and the Eu want another. Pointless even contemplating anything that’s a hassle or god forbid a big bad inconvenience until next year and probably beyond.

For what’s its worth I expect a crap deal like I did 4 years ago. We will have to wait and see.

Fido will have to wait and see like the rest of us:-)

She’s called Peppa and she’s 13 so probably won’t be around for the good times :-)
