Another new Brexit thread

The sensible thing would be to restrict it to ether those resident there on 31st Jan or those resident there 31st Dec coming - when we are out we are out I am sure Spanish people don't want British health tourists coming after that happens.
More bullshit.
How many times do you need telling that reciprocity was in place prior to our joining the EU, and what would be’Sensible’ about stopping it?
And who in their right mind would travel from here to ponce off the Spanish health system?

Remember that current healthcare conditions are guaranteed until the end of December 2020 when the current Brexit transition period ends. After this date, the future of healthcare in Spain for travelling Brits is uncertain and also depends on what the UK offers EU citizens in Britain.

Let’s hope that any deal allows the status quo to continue. In the meantime, people with property there who are eligible for residency can guarantee ongoing free healthcare by securing residency status by the end of the year. I’m sure you already know this though, and if you’re not stupid you will have applied and accepted the hypocrisy of doing so as a Brexiteer.

Plenty of people travel to Europe to get treatments that the cash strapped NHS can't or won't offer and private providers make it just too expensive. Someone I know of went to Turkey for dental treatment this year - cost at home £32k. Cost in Turkey? £9K and him and his Mrs got a fortnights holiday in that too.

You wanna get out more pal.

Someone who could sell their house in London for half a million, but a nice villa in Spain for half that and live off the other half and their pension in the sun?

Yes, I do know, and I’m not applying for residency. I also know that reciprocal agreements are very unlikely to be rescinded, for the simple reason that to scrap them benefits nobody. I can’t wait for January, it’ll be a hoot on here.

You are talking about PRIVATE healthcare, which is far from cheap in Spain.
Turkey is not in the EU.
As you have now convinced yourself that reciprocal agreements won’t exist, that everything ceases, the Spanish and other EU members won’t want health tourists from Britain, (the daftest thing yet), we’ll await the end of this transition to see who’s called it right.

I am fully aware I was talking private healthcare - simply pointing out that people do travel from here to EU countries for medical treatment. Sadly if little Johnny falls and cracks his head open on the family holiday in Palma Nova next year its going to cost his parents .... which is a change from the current regime. Thats not including the need to buy new passports if their existing ones are nearly out of date, oh and the need to get extra paperwork to make the trip or hire a car whilst they are there ....fucking way to go eh?

Yeah way to fucking go, and the sad bit for you will be having to accept yet another doom scenario has gone down the shitter in a few months.

Reciprocal healthcare agreements don’t specifically need to be rescinded. They were part of our former EU membership and remain in place during transition as agreed in the WA. Unless a new deal is in place by the year end they will simply expire and it will be up to individual countries whether to continue with something similar, presumably in conjunction with the UK agreeing to do the same. Without an overall agreement, the existing EHIC, S1, S2 and S3 schemes won’t be available and replacements will need to be put in place. There’s no guarantee that this will happen in each country, and new schemes may not match the ones they supersede.

Personally I think there will be a deal that will allow the existing schemes to continue but there’s no guarantees.
