Another new Brexit thread

I can see you are in for a shock - UK tourism isn't - they sadly see the writing on the wall.
No shock here - we're already assuming we'll all be out of work post brexit so no holidays, and those lorry parks will make it impossible to get anywhere near the ferry ports. This is all before considering the crashing pound meaning a single croissant on the other side of the channel will cost as much as the average monthly take home here in blighty for the few who still have jobs.

As the Agriculture Bill goes back to the Commons, can anyone explain why the government promises it will not reduce standards on food imports but is trying to remove the Lords amendment making that the law?

NB This is not about changing our food standards for food produced on British farms, are least not yet.

I expect a lot of distraction and whataboutery but if you can't say something sensible, perhaps say nothing. Of course, there may be nothing sensible to say.

Maybe they want to raise standards?

Maybe they want to raise standards?

"..the secretary of state must lay regulations specifying a process for determining that the standards to which an imported food product has been produced or processed “are equivalent to, or exceed, the relevant domestic standards and regulations in relation to animal health and welfare, protection of the environment, food safety, hygiene and traceability, and plant health”."

Protecting against lowering food standards shouldn't matter if you only intend to raise them, surely? Or have I just been Clarkied?

Where you went wrong is you expected a resident leaver to contribute something to the discussion instead of just making a glib meaningless comment.

Food standards is going the exact same way as every other significant brexit issue - the way that brexiteers denied all along and still deny to this day even as they push through the legislation that enables it.

In your humble opinion....

When I said there may be nothing sensible to say, I wasn't really expecting the opposite of sensible. And that's not "insensible".
But he adds humour to the thread so I’m reliably informed.

People from around the world must go online specially to see his hilarious quips about lorry parks and queues, and a particular favourite are his ones about chlorinated chicken.
