Another new Brexit thread

I know about Britain first but I've just heard Eustice say that Lurpak should tear up with their agreements with Danish trade unions and move jobs here (to avoid tariffs on Danish butter).

As he's also about to make UK dairy farming in the UK less viable, Lurpak would still have to import EU milk to make butter here.

I'm sorry that this sort of thing is bullying Leaavers off the thread.

I think the idea is to make all farming less viable, It also seems to be the aim to reduce the amount of farmland while putting tariffs on imported food, which is an interesting strategy.

NFU also saying ‘no deal’ will devastate the farming industry, which given farmers support for Brexit kind of makes you want to root for ‘no deal’ just for the lols.

A look at the concept of ‘accidental illegality‘ which will become an issue after 31st December. Makes you appreciate the simplicity of dealing with one set of rules for 27 countries as opposed to dealing with 27 countries applying their own laws and regs when it comes to services.

I'm not sure farmers were that much "for Brexit". Some believed the lies but it was still a fairly even split (with Remain support strongest in the favoured areas getting most EU subsidies).

There are academic studies exploring the issues in depth e.g. https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S074301671930436X

(Not specific to farming but that includes as a factor "collective narcissism" - a belief in national greatness!)

Fair point.

Still struggling to see many upsides of Brexit, but for the sake of balance this appears (on paper at least) to be a potential positive if we see more sustainable and environmental practices supported.

Agreed but if food quality standards deteriorate then .....

Farmland is excluded from inheritence tax. Making big farm estates very popular among the tax dodging elite. Brexit is also strongly supported by tax dodgers as EU rules are steadily clamping down on tax dodging.

All about the fish, 'bout the fish, 'bout the fish
All about the fish, 'bout the fish, no bother.

According to Raaaaaaaaaaaab.

Except it isn't just about the fish.
It's about the much more difficult issues for the UK of LPF and governance.

This is just a smokescreen being put about by the Government to blame the EU in the event of no deal.

The laughable thing about the fish are the questions of who is going to catch it and where are they going to sell it? If you own a day boat and go out fishing say up to 5 miles off shore ( the majority of the British fleet ) that boat is in no way fit to fish 150miles out in the Atlantic Ocean. Then there is the market question - 70% is currently sold tariff free into the EU - thats about to end.

Its all about the LPF.

What the f..k is LPF? Tired of trying to figure out all these abbreviations people use nowadays just because they can't be arsed to write it out properly.
