Another new Brexit thread

No Bob, BestSecret are becoming nonviable in the UK due to us removing a trade barrier - the EU tariff on clothing. This means their discounting model doesn't work anymore as imports to the UK free of EU tariffs undercut even their ability to discount.
And presumably undercut domestic manufacturers.
Another victory for the consumer - apart from those who have less money because their manufacturing jobs are no longer viable.

It's a tiny distributor that restricts membership to 250k people globally to distribute reduced designer stuff - sort of like an online TK-Max. Their business model is not viable in the UK post-brext as direct imports of clothing without EU tariffs will undercut even their discounts. Essentially one of the few tangible good news stories about brexit.
Yeah to be fair probably even lower down the scale from the problems facing second home owners for me

Are you saying the UK will impose no tariffs on clothing?

Also if there are no UK tariffs on clothing this would mean no tariffs on clothing from the EU which is essentially what we have now, so how will this impact Best Secrets heavily discounted business model given there is no net difference?

The statement from Best Secret does not mention tariffs. It states ‘new rules, regulations and customs in place, we no longer feel capable of providing the service you deserve.’

This indicates the issues are more about non-tariff barriers (NBT).

Have a look at the best secret brands - mostly (like most clothes) imported from China /SE Asia so EU imposes tariffs much higher than the WTO ones we would be imposing after brexit. There is obviously a whole other debate to be had about importing cheap fashion from the far east which is ethnically and environmentally questionable to say the least.

Agree there are probably more important things to worry about. I'd imagine some sort of annual long-stay visa costing between €80-100 would be one possible solution for those wishing to stay longer than three months per year in their second homes. I wonder if such a thing exists in most EU countries?
Not just about second homes though.
What about those that wanna go and find a better life or job or those that annually spend half the year working there?
