Another new Brexit thread

On the last few pages the three most vocal Brexiteers have said:
- It's all about immigration
- It's nothing to do with immigration
- It's the EU's fault
- It's Dublin's fault
- It's parliament's fault
- It's May's fault
- I'm not arsed if we remain
I'm confused.

And by the way I have not seen a single post by any leaver which says fuck the GFA , sod it. We want peace respected and the gfa agreement to be upheld. We don’t want a border and we want peace.

However at the moment the only political voice is the shouty DUP. I would love it if stormont could be reestablished and Northern Ireland had a proper political voice of its own. At the moment it is being used as a political football between the eu and the uk and Northern Ireland deserves better.

I think it's all these Armenian kids with Bulgarian passports in our schools that's the giveaway... You can't move in our local school for Macedonian kids.

it already is - as EU migration has fallen so has non-EU migration risen. In a country with high levels of employment there will inevitably be jobs nobody will do or jobs for which we have too few with the requisite skills - what do we do? Let bins go unemptied or just decide we can all wait for 6 months to get a GP appointment or do we just continue to invite people into the country. The only stumbling block will be incomes. The arbitrary and high minimum wage for immigrants mean we will have to take low paid jobs emptying bins but even moreso because the £36k is beyond the average wage of the country ( £29k ) and higher than the starting salary for nurses, Police Constables, Teachers, engineering and so on

The problem with holding a GE is that it's a waste of time and would solve nothing, except the personnel now in charge of delivering brexit that P'ment has ratified. We can only sort out our own P'ment after we sort out the political union with 27 other European nations. Get thaty resolved and then we, the public, can vote in which party will be charged with moving forward. Ignoring it means we have the same issues over and over again, with the Brexit Party muddying the waters and halting us from progressing onwards, because in light of refusing to deliver brexit, they WILL keep the issue relevant.

Our/my/your government, which is it? It varies depending on whoever you'd speak to, so how does one, not associated, speak respectfully of how that person wishes to be addressed? In my view, the UK is the union of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, who citizens chooses to continue to associate with Great Britain and has the right to decide it's own dependence without any British interference.

How else am I supposed to address the situation? Naturally for a NI citizen with more affirmation to the Republic of Ireland, they'd be more accepting of me not "claiming" NI as British, no? And here's something to throw into the mix; I don't consider myself "British", either.

Our/my/your is all the same thing...im British, we have the same government...in NI we (supposedly) have a devolved government, but that doesnt make us independent...we still fall under British rule. We dont get to choose our dependence without British interference...we are meant to be able to decide with British and Irish involvement.

So,
Some wish to stay within the UK but leave the EU
Some wish to stay within the UK but remain in the EU
Some wish to unite with the RoI and remain in the EU (republicans/nationalists)
Some would rather unite with RoI rather than leave the EU (some "soft" unionists)


A nationalist/republican may wish you not to claim NI is British, but it is. I dont really consider myself to be a unionist or nationalist....ultimately i "think" id rather be within the UK and remain in the EU...however, the thought of a united Ireland doesnt bother me at all...but thats a different conversation, and there will never just be a United Ireland....itll be a 2 state solution if it were to ever happen, a devolved government from Dublin, rather than London
