Backlog our side means backlog French side.

French have already said it simply will not be allowed to happen....it costs too much money you see.
The photo in that tweet seems to be taken next year showing the lorries all backing up. It's a camera that takes pictures of the future - wonder if they have one of the finish at next year's grand national?

Hope you're not suggesting it's a Photoshop to suit a narrative?

Given the daily doom and gloom on here I was led to believe it was genuine.

I suppose it's a bit like that poster showing a huge queue of migrants. It's showing what 'could' happen to sensationalise a non-story. Probably a bit harsh to suggest we're being lied to ;-)

If anyone is interested as to why the EU has granted financial equivalence, it's explained here.

The EU haven’t granted financial equivalence. The article you posted doesn’t say that either. I am aware we have “put in place a temporary permissions regime to allow EU firms to continue operating in the UK after Brexit. The onus is now on the EU to take action to mitigate risks of disruption to financial services after the end of the transition period.” source PinsetMasons.

Was there an announcement that I missed?

No. We have already given ourselves a ‘six month transition’ until 30th June 2021. Lorries arriving from France will be waved through which means no build up on the French side. To avoid build up on our side we need the French to adopt a similar ‘wave everything through’ approach until we are ready.

The Ashford site I assume will be an area for custom checks after the six month period. This will probably only be a first phase. Likely to be expanded or other areas built in Kent and I presume elsewhere to cater for GB/NI trade. Then you have the land bridge route through GB for Ireland trade with EU which will be exempt from custom checks. I believe the UK has acceded to the Common Transit Convention by which it recognises EU transit movements as valid in the United Kingdom.

I'd like to think we can reach a reasonable settlement without stooping to those tactics tbh. We just want to leave not make enemies. I'm sure the thought that we may have some leverage in negotiations will vex some remain folks - this may not fit their world view.

It doesn’t vex anyone. We have two main cards. Fish and finance. Barnier will compromise on fish because it’s small beer in the scheme of things, the only thing they won’t accept is annual negotiations on fish. France and Spain are though beIng a pain on fish which does seems to be vexing Barnier.

Finance is obvious and on derivatives there is already an agreed 12 month stay on derivative trading in the event of no deal, unless that has been scrapped and I missed it. We won’t get passporting though but I think we gave up on that a while back

Surely this is good news? We've been repeatedly told that the Govt was doing nothing to address the post brexit lorry queues on the approach to Dover - well, now they are. Comforting to those that were ever, actually worried about it.

That would be good news had we not been told that it wasn't Project Fear to suggest such a thing of course

Proven by the fact that South Wales benefited massively from the EU investment in infrastructure projects - South Wales was massively pro-Brexit. They all just ignored the signs on the bridges they drove over on the ring road they were using which declared they were done in partnership with the EU and just fell for the big numbers that were claimed to be "savings" as a Brexit dividend. They rejected the argument that Westminster would not spend in South Wales to the same degree and were blinded by shiny things shown to them. I doubt South Wales will see any sort of Brexit dividend - I am pretty sure Henley on Thames will though.
Were they the the signs that (should have) said "....Built with a fraction of the contributions from the UK that the EU decided not to spend elsewhere...."

Yes, you are correct. I should have specified this is only the €735 trillion derivatives market.

All news is to be criticised - don't you know..

If we had not had Remainers in charge throughout 2016-2019, perhaps more could have been done

Or, built with money that will now go to building customs posts.

What is it with the absolute devotion to the EU?

Most of you, anyone but the Tories, have for the majority of your adult lives told anyone that will listen how shit things are in the country yet you never think for all of those shit years we have been a member of the EU, an organisation you want us all to believe is the answer to many of our problems and issues.

What part of the EU is no different, a political ruling elite facing the same issues, the same poverty, the same jobless numbers of not higher, the same homelessness, the same drugs issues, the same crime issues etc etc do you not get?

They have no answers to the very issues you all care about so much other than we need more power thanks and oh, more of your money.
