EU Deal. There to be done “I’ve always been a great enthusiast for a trade deal with our European friends and partners.”

US Deal. Whoa, that’s going to be tough, never said that will be easy.

Biden will fund the WTO and allow judges to be appointed. So when we fall foul of WTO terms, there will be WTO judges in place to make a judgment. Some of them straight from the ECJ.

One thing about Boris is that he’ll go with whichever way the wind is blowing. Fortunately it’s now blowing in the right direction.

for years it was blowing smoke right up his arse - then he became FS and then PM and from that point it was blowing in his face and between him and the source of the wind is a muckspreader - imagine suffering that for a mere £150k pa - awwww diddums

I expect it to put additional pressure on the current stalemate over LPF and fish. In a no deal outcome then the WA and NI protocols still apply. If we start backtracking on those signed commitments, and put Dublin in a difficult position on the land border, that is where it will get difficult for the UK. Alienating our closest neighbours and what we like to think of as our ‘greatest ally’ against a backdrop of a pandemic is not the place we want to be.

The other factor is that the UK is not of greater or lesser importance to the US than Germany or France. The US under Biden will want good relations with all these countries and see the EU as an important part of that relationship. Biden regards Brexit as a mistake, but a Brexit that does not disrupt the EU or Dublin or cause any waves is not going to be a problem. In short, Brexit if you must, it’s your funeral after all, just behave yourselves while you do it.
This still doesn't address the fact that the brexit thing is,all done and dusted at the end of December and Biden only starts his new job on Jan 20th.

By which time the effects of leaving will have become very real
I don't dispute that for a second, but the issue here unless we agree an extension to the 31 Dec deadline with the EU is Bidens apparent leverage on the Brexit situation prior to Jan 20th. I'd imagine once the euphoria of ousting Trump subsides the pressing issue in the US for the next 70 days will be what Trump is getting up to in terms of appointments, presidential pardons, and general acts of vandalism on the way out the door.

I wouldn't disagree - I think Biden can keep his leverage powder dry for a later date meantime Johnson is hung out to dry coz Biden can just say " not now I am busy with our own crazy **** " and Johnsons Brexit Ultra's in the ERG and the NRG will say " any extension and you will be fucked pal "...such a shame.........not

Biden and Rod Stewart surely represent the best of all things celtic. I'm not sure it's occured to the Taoiseach when Bidens presidency actually starts and how that fits into the brexit timeline - we might already be being treated for the toxic effects of chlorinated chicken in a privatised NHS by the time he gets to park his zimmer frame in the oval office.

Legislators elected to the House of Congress take their seats on the 3rd January 2021 (20th amendment) All trade deals have to be approved through both houses. There are also two run offs to be contested on the 6th Jan.

The chances of any trade deal being concluded before then is virtually nil

We don't need a trade deal - we've never had one with the US and neither have the EU. I doubt a deal would be a good thing as it would doubtless be loaded very much in US favour as was the proposed TTIP monstrosity that to the EU's credit they walked away from. As others on here have said, if the 27(28) nation EU couldn't get a mutually decent deal then I very much doubt the UK in a position of weakness would.

No - this is the problem with these arseholes like him and IDS......they have such a jumped up idea of themselves they actually think they matter..........wankers the lot of them

I love the 'you have a big mandate but ours is bigger' bit.

At least he's not making us look a total fucking laughing stock...

Its written for a home audience trying to keep the faithful onside - the letter will already be in Bidens bin.
