I think we’ve said all along matching EU employment rights will be the minimum that can be expected from the UK.

But I’m not sure how much that really matters when we already have companies today that flout the law, and they tend to employee people who are vulnerable to immediate and significant problems should they lose their jobs so they know they won’t speak out about it firstly for fear of losing their job for grassing and secondly for fear of the company going tits up and them losing their job.

Tell that to the British Gas employees who've been told that they now have to work a 37 hour week , plus travelling time of an hour a day (making 42 in total at no extra pay) .... and had their holidays reduced.

..................or be sacked. Theres no way the Tories will match EU rules unless its written into UK legislation (which is why they didnt do it in the first place)

We have regulatory allignment and a mechanism by which we get policed by the EU. If we do not stay alligned then we get hit with tariffs. Add in the fact we have surendered NI and have agreed to an internal regulatory border (policed by the EU) then its pretty much the shit deal that could have been done a year ago. We have gained nothing - the outcome is a shit deal. Its bad for business and bad for the long term union. Scotland wont want this shit and neither will some hardline brexiteers. And a shit storm of red tape and adminiostrative burdon and cost awaits.

The question is will it get through and how long will it last? This is not a long term solution because it's the awful outcome that remainers claimed would happen and the one brexiteers denied. Its the definition of a shit deal - we are subservent to EU rules in order or maintain free market access - the logical conclusion is you are better off a member where you get to set the rules - not just take the rules.
Really? I don't know where all that comes from, but it sounds like a remain supporting piece by James O'Brien from about two years ago.

Is that travelling from depot to job mate? If so that’s not on and for a company the size of BG it’s scandalous. How many people are affected?

No 10 statement

Deal is done.

Everything that the British public was promised during the 2016 referendum and in the general election last year is delivered by this deal

  • We have taken back control of our money, borders, laws, trade and our fishing waters
  • The deal is fantastic news for families and businesses in every part of the UK. We have signed the first free trade agreement based on zero tariffs and zero quotas that has ever been achieved
  • The deal is the biggest bilateral trade deal signed by either side, covering trade worth £668bn in 2019.
  • The deal also guarantees that we are no longer in the lunar pull of the EU, we are not bound by EU rules, there is no role for the European Court of Justice and all of our key red lines about returning sovereignty have been achieved. It means that we will have full political and economic independence on 1st January 2021.
