Ante Coric

Luca Modric moved directly from Croatia to the Premier League when he was 22 years old.

My point is that not every player need to be loaned out.

Liga is lower level football compared to the prem??? Sorry but i stopped reading rest of your post after that.

Coric has a ready example in Halillovic, who thought he had arrived and was the next Messi & deserved Barcelona football.

Not as black and white as that mate. Let me be clearer...."Prem" as in Man city with CL football or "Granada"? Yes, I see Granada as a lower level for his development/experience! Also, if you read the bit you highlighted I didnt say I think Liga is lower level, I said "he might see" it(Granada) as lower level, which if you believe reports, he must do as doesnt want to go there!

I think you're wrong, man. IMO, Pep is on a way to repeat Cruyff's attempt of 1995 to make a team full of young, hungry players eager to learn the new total voetbal philosophy. Zinchenko is a real jewel, not an average promising player to earn a buck by resale. In case of Coric, he is deluded if he thinks he can jump right into the EPL without any intermediate stage. Maybe the boy is surrounded by wrong people. As for Granada, you can't find a more 'Pep-styled' manager in Spain than Paco Jemez. He plays 'Juego de Posicion' just like Guardiola.

Maybe. I just think these are talents our scouting team and Txiki have identified. I don't think Pep is calling the shots as to which youngsters Txiki should buy, and then loan out. He is thinking about the squad now IMO. I don't think Moreno and Zinchenko are there to make them a quick buck. I think they will get their chance if they do well on loan, and then Pep decides. But if Pep doesn't fancy them.....they can be sold for profit. It's a win-win.
I think the club is trying to avoid having to pay 20m+ or 30m+ for players in the future.

From reading the reports...Deal was done with his club but when Coric's agent asked Gary Worthington (assistant head of player recruitment) what are your plans for Coric....it doesnt sounds like he was able to give an answer. If this is true, its hardly giving the lad much confidence in signing for us!

Where do you see Ante Coric, considering that the City's roster filled , a team formed?

At that Worthington had no answer. Only unconvincing "We'll see, but you can sign."And at that moment the negotiations are for Coric's side have lost all meaning , and the company dispersed.

If true, some ass needs to be kicked very hard. The case when a dose of pep-talk could solve the problem.

So this has gone from close to be completed this morning, to very unlikely this afternoon?

If this report is true(and it does seem to give alot of details), I would guess the "almost completed" rumours were because a fee was agreed with his club and we were meeting with his agent to complete personal terms but the "unlikely" rumours now seem because, during the meeting, we were not able to "sell" the move to the player. If we really did answer with "We'll see, but you can sign" I think thats poor on our part. This might be a story, we never really find out what truly happened. Maybe good time for a phone call from Pep!;)

Given the standard of players we have already signed I would assume the conversation would have been more like "Look your good but not that good yet, get your backside out on loan for a year then come back and Pep will turn you into a superstar"

If he doesn't want that then more fool him

He wants a bigger role at his next club or He wants a bigger club or He wants a bigger role at a bigger club? Im sure if it was option 1, Grenada was his next destination, he could play a big role.

Kids are easily spoilt by agents these days and when they see vine merchants go for absurdly idiotic fees and wages, they get swayed!

He sure has talent. Hoepfully he makes the right calls in his career.

Compare with Zinchenko who, according to agent Varga, was hunted by Wenger for two years, had numerous invitations from big clubs but chose City just to learn from Pep. And hadn't even set his financial demands - took what City decided to be an appropriate wage.

Dont think this is about money mate! Just from reading reports about the lad, money doesnt seem to be the driving force behind his move. I can understand the lad having concerns, moving from the team he's been apart of since he was 16 and now playing CL football to Granada?

Actually, he would be playing much better attacking football in Granada against world stars, learning modern tactics at the same time. I recall Paco's Rayo coming to Bernabeu last season and literally beating the shit out of Madrid before the corrupted ref had started to show absurd reds left and right. It's incomparable with a very weak Croatian league. 6 CL matches don't change anything. Watch Zagreb and watch Rayo. Night and day.

So the planning and working for months has gone because of one sentence when we were closing the deal !

It doesn't make sense, I will understand it if it happened during the beginning of negotiation not at the end.

Zinchenko might not have set any financial demands but at the time of signing, Zinchenko agent said he didnt want to go out on loan and expected him to be a regular in our first team. We dont know but maybe he only signed because we offered him that chance? I havent seen any reports of Coric setting high wage demands, only that he wanted the best possible situation for his development and didnt feel Granada was the best situation?

We can only guess, unfortunately. As for Alex, he just gave an interview in Ufa saying he'll do what Pep will say, loan or stay.

I'm amazed they didnt go with the line of "yeah a loan is likely, but a fair amount of players are at the end of contracts next season, and you will likely be bought in"

Worthington was asked, “Considering City’s squad is full, where do you see Ante Ćorić fitting in?” and his answer is said to have been ‘unconvincing’, something along the lines of, “We’ll see, but you can sign.”

At that moment, negotiations lost all meaning for Ćorić’s entourage because Worthington had failed to convince them the Croatia international would play an important role at City. One of City’s plans for the youngster, Večernji List has learned, would have been to loan him to La Liga side Granada, who are coached by Pep Guardiola’s friend, Paco Jémez. Ćorić’s management were unimpressed by the idea of Croatia’s most promising player being farmed out to a team struggling to stay in La Liga.

Ćorić and his advisors are only interested in joining a ‘strong, ambitious club’, which Manchester City could certainly be labelled. However, Gary Worthington’s pitch put Team Ćorić off, and they believe a club such as Porto or Benfica could be better for his development.
