Any Laurel And Hardy fans ?

Something I feel sad about in this multi-channel age is that the young don't get exposed to the likes of them in the way I did when growing up. The sheer genius of them is going to be forgotten. A friend of mine who is about 30 had never heard of Harold Lloyd, never seen him. I showed him on YouTube the clock tower sequence, and pointed out the brilliance of the camera work and the risks taken (albeit it wasn't as dangerous as it looked!) and he was stunned. He had no idea.

Those two were just brilliant. But I fear destined to be largely forgotten.
When my kids were younger they had some early Norman Wisdom films on video tapes that they used to watch every now and then. One day a couple of their mates came in, looked at the screen and asked if the TV was broken. They'd never seen black and white programmes before. Funny and sad at the same time.

Laurel & Hardy were on all the time on telly back in the seventies, fantastic stuff. Will Hay was one of my favourites, too.

Anyone agree with me they have never been surpassed by anyone for pure comedy .....in my opinion the greatest comedy act in history .....
Go and see the new film it’s beautiful and brings back many memories for me, they are the best double act ever.

Absolutely.

Tangentially related, over Christmas Day I was round with friends, and seeing the usual tripe on tv, we looked at some of the other channels. Ah, Carry on Up the Khyber, that'll do. One of the guests had brought his Singaporean girlfriend with him, and obviously she'd never seen it before. She was in fits of laughter (after all, taking the piss out of the British Empire is a fairly global pursuit anyway, so easy to grasp the concept of it), she absolutely loved it. It gave me a weird feeling of pleasure to see someone thoroughly enjoy a 50 year old film she was coming to fresh.
