Any Laurel And Hardy fans ?

The film is terrific mate - just the right balance between comedy and pathos - and both Coogan and Reilly absolutely nail their parts (including the accents). Touching, well scripted, well acted, and concerning (IMO) the greatest comedy double act of all time. Worked for me!
Bit of poetic licence in there but really enjoyable top film.

Thought the same, I think coogan deserves a few plaudits for that performance, rag or not, when he’s on point he’s actually a brilliant actor....

Loved the film and it brought so many memories flooding back of being a nipper, sat at my old mans feet, Sunday morning double bills, giggling at its simplicity..

True greats of the genre!

Something I feel sad about in this multi-channel age is that the young don't get exposed to the likes of them in the way I did when growing up. The sheer genius of them is going to be forgotten. A friend of mine who is about 30 had never heard of Harold Lloyd, never seen him. I showed him on YouTube the clock tower sequence, and pointed out the brilliance of the camera work and the risks taken (albeit it wasn't as dangerous as it looked!) and he was stunned. He had no idea.

Those two were just brilliant. But I fear destined to be largely forgotten.

I was speaking to guy a couple of months ago, in his 30s mid on easily, who said to me he'd never heard of Laurel and Hardy!

I said 'Are you serious? Not even in passing??'!

He looked blankly at me.

To say I was shocked was an understatement!

I'm 61 and my Dad introduced me to Laurel and Hardy. Last year whilst in the Lake District, we went as a family to the Laurel and Hardy Museum in Ulverston (Stans birtrhplace). If you ever get the chance, have a look. It is a 'typical' enthusiasts museum, very 'British' and run by an fan whose Father established the museum. Entrance is something daft like £2. They have a micro cinema where short films run in a continous loop. So.... 'Hard Boiled Eggs and Nuts, Hmphh !'

I've got a box set of all the films they made and almost worn it out, utter geniuses the pair of em ... anyone who doesn't like them is dead...! :-)
I've nearly everything they made.
All on video TAPE. Plus a few documentaries and a few books.
All taped from BBC2 years ago.
Nearly worn out and pretty tatty these days but won't part with them.
Crowned kings of comedy.
Morecambe and wise are far behind them.
They even stole the 2 men in bed together scene from them. . . Then said it was a tribute to them.

They used to The Music Box short when I was a kid on TV all the time after Saturday Morning Cartoons. You still see the flight of stairs they carried the piano up in documentaries. I'd watch a little bit of Luarel and Hardy and then an Abbott and Costello movie with Costello saying, "I'mma bad boy!" I've always thought that the comedy writing from that era can't be topped. Since so many of the guys got their start in vaudeville or music hall, the gags or jokes had to be so good it would appear natural AGAIN and AGAIN and AGAIN. It wasn't like they were improving like they do in shitty comedies now. That's why stuff from that era can't be topped. The art was meant to last.

Now, "Tell me that again."
