Any news on Micah Richards' return?

Maicon has an achilles injury which are generally pretty nasty and can take forever to recover from.

when did he pick this up? and roughly how long are we looking at?

That is really bad news, and these sort of injuries just make you more prone to future knee injuries.

True. There is always the chance the meniscus doesn't heal properly and and it could be torn again. Thats what happened to me. Strangely the recovery time is shorter if they just remove it, but its not ideal long term.
Hopefully it will be a successful recovery.

Had mine done 6 weeks ago. Told by surgeon would be driving in 10-12 days n have full use in 4-5 weeks.

Still in pain, still not got full use and told yesterday by occupational health doc that hasnt healed as well as hoped and that am not allowed to resume full duties for another 6 weeks.

Seeing my consultant on Monday so may get another op.

Wow, that sucks mate.
They might give it another go repairing it, but its not so bad having it removed. It's considerably less painful after and you can walk right away. Im only 21 though, so long term it may not be as great as it seems. I hear arthritis is likely later in life. Particularly as I still run/play football.

4 months, ouch. Those who were whingeing about signing Maicon should shut up now

Why? has he suddenly got over his injuries, lost a couple of years and rediscovered a yard of pace?

Loss of a yard of pace or not he's still a good player and at 31 it's hardly a dads army job now is it?

Who else would you play at right back when Zaba needs a rest? Kolo the clown? I'll stick with Maicon thanks

My son had the same problem, his knee just locked up when he was running. Had an operation to trim the meniscus but it's still not right 3 years on. His knee occasionally still locks up.

Unfortunately you are correct about Arthritis. I've had 3 repair / removal meniscus ops over the years. Basically down to wear and tear mainly caused by running on tarmac roads, Fell Walking and of course playing football when I was younger.

Although I'm fit and active (in my early 60's) and still Fell Walking on a regular basis I now have the occasional arthritic flare-up in both knees. It goes with the territory and my Doc told me that it's inevitable in later life. What happens is that there's nothing left to cushion the knee joint so the wear & tear increases.

The only advice I would give you is to take a high strength Cod Liver Oil capsule each morning. It may sound an old fashioned remedy but it helps a great deal. It won't prevent arthritis but it should assist in keeping you reasonably active as you get older.

Yeah I go to the gym a lot, tend to use multi-vitamins and cod liver oil tablets every day. Hopefully it will keep it at bay for a long while. But I reside to the fact its pretty inevitable!

Thanks for the advice! Hopefully it will keep me off the walking stick past my 20's! Haha

Hi mate.Have arthritis in both hips and take painkillers to help (also for degeneration of the spine). However, never been advised about Cod Liver Oil tablets, but they appear to work for you.
Seems I may take your advice and give them a whirl and see what the outcome is.
As you say they wont stop it/prevent it (seeing I already suffer) but worth a go,as you say.

Thread has kind of turned into a bit of physio so I'll throw my hat into the ring. Have degeneration of the spine to go along with a couple fused disks in my neck from a car accident. Have been able to really reduce the amount of painkillers I take going to an organic diet and really increasing my water intake. Staying hydrated is the most important thing you can do when dealing with arthritic situations. Keeping the joints lubricated really helps. I drink a minimum of 5 liters a day. Stay away from caffeine if possible. It really dehydrates you. Glucosamine & chondroitin supplements help as well but the main thing is the diet. Going organiz you really reduce the amount of chemicals you put in your body thus retaining more water so your body doesn't have to use it all up trying to flush them out of your system.

Why are knees such bastards? Blew mine out at 15, was knocking on 12s for 100m and looking to kick on to the next level and they just went.

13 yrs later and the cold leaves me limping about. Rubbish joints.
