ive looked at a 1998 toyota avensis which im not to keen on (but i believe they are very reliable) and ive been looking at vectra's and escorts on autotrader.

Mate seriously, be very carefull on what you buy. We have loads of cars coming in to us that are gash at that price now, all the good cars of that ilk have now been scraped thanks to the government. Value for money at the moment are ford mondeos, because they are booking very cheep. A guy came into the dealership yesterday and had a 52 plate 2.0 Ghia x 75k on it full history and booked at around £700.

Have a look at Astra estates mate, just got trough the second of mine over the last few years. I traded up from a 1990 (brother in law still runs it) to a 93. Just going through the process with the insurance some prick smashed into it early New Years Day and wrote it off. Parts are cheep and easily available and should be in your price range easily.

Will be looking to sell my wires VW Polo end of March.
57 plate, service history
Colour is city blue, 1.4SE Petrol with electric window front and rear, heated seats.

Think it has around 24000 miles on the clock, tax and mot until September.

Anyone know where the best place would be to find out how much it's worth?

Robbo - a bit of advice if you would.

If you had £6k to spend on a 5 door, at least 1.6L, 40k ish mileage, diesel what would you consider?

No french though.

Proberbly,
Ford - Focus 05-06 plate, Fusion 07-57, Fiesta (old shape) 07-57
Vauxall - Astra, Mariva, Corsa
Kia - Ceed (good car, brilliant warranty.)

The French thing is a good point, anything French that comes to us and we might retail normally there’s a spend up to £500-£700 repair bill.

I would be able to give you a trade price, but not in work.. but if you go on "we buy any car.com" they will give you a rough idea, but don’t take that quote fully as at the moment they are giving very low values at the moment. They are taking advantage of people that need to get rid of there cars for cash quick, so they are in dealership terms, kicking you in the bollocks. Aslo they are run by Carcraft or carshaft as people refer them as.
