Anyone been to Buenos Aires?

I was there for a while 20 years or so ago. It's a great city, though like London it's very spread out and covers a huge area.

I've been to South America a few times, and in many respects it's the most interesting place to visit because apart from the few well known bits, everything else is a pleasant and wonderful surprise. It's not a continernt we hear much about in the UK. It's a forgotten place in that regard, so everything is a bit of an intriguing adventure.

It's a long flight, something like 14 hours from London if my my memory serves me well, but the people, as they are everywhere on Earth, are friendly, the food, especially the beef and Lamb, is world class, and I have nothing but fond memories of my time there.

I'd have no qualms about going back there whatsoever, and if you can take in the Boca v River Plate game which I was invited to while I was there, well, that's an experience in itself that justifies the flight.

Get yourself down there, because it's a fantastic part of the world.
Id love to go. Its 100% on my bucket list

Silly question this as i probably know the answer, but are the ‘locals’ ok with the english? Presume no one gives a shit

When I went they were absolutely fine. Before the Falklands war, Argentinians were bigger Anglophiles than any other South Americans and despite the war I got mainly positive vibes about being English. Would expect that would be even more pronounced now given the success that Argentinian footballers have had in England in the last 15 years.

Yeah i kinda knew that would be the case. I do work for an argentinian family. Apart from being a pain in the arse agreeing a price they are lovely

Silly of me to ask i guess

They’re is a lot of misconception in latam about the falklands islands and it’s connection to the UK, thinking it’s part of our now non-existent empire. I had a few conversations about how it’s only really a “protectorate” and as such we only control their foreign policy as we our duty bound to come to their aid and don’t want them pissing off other countries unnecessarily. If the inhabitants voted to be part of Argentina they could undoubtedly go with our blessing.

That gave them a very different view of the war but was a fascinating insight into how that war is perceived in latam. They still hate Chile though for helping us in the falklands and for how Britain was instrumental in Chile prosperity back in the late 1800s which they resent.
