Anyone been to Buenos Aires?

Id love to go. Its 100% on my bucket list

Silly question this as i probably know the answer, but are the ‘locals’ ok with the english? Presume no one gives a shit

Same here…need to visit BA before the legs go & can still afford to.

Mind you the long flight is off-putting.

Heard attending a Boca Juniors game at the infamous La Bombenera is a must for any footie fan even though the La Boca area gets a bit ‘lively’ after dark.

some good replies - agree with the long flights thing so will probably make a stopover in the U.S there and back - just need to convince the other half (turned her nose up already at the suggestion) :(

It’s a stunning city, fantastic architecture with a drop dead gorgeous female population. We never got any Falklands Argie Bargie. I went with a bunch of info from a BA local work colleague, the one place that sticks in the memory was a restaurant chain called Sega y Vacca (Follow the Cow) basically a bbq setup, the bbq itself being a 20ft x 10ft chain link fence stretched over a fiery hole, every piece of the cow, lamb etc was cooked, a chalk board to the side indicating prices, typically £10 for two with a bottle of Malbec. All their meat is grass fed and tastes amazing. No one eats before 9pm, even on the school days.

The locals footie bars were quite something - basically a single bare room, bar on one side, no chairs, no tables, one small TV in a cage bolted to the wall. I never had the bottle to go in.

They were absolutley fine and I never experienced any hostility whatsoever. I never broached the subject of the Falkands war as it seemed a sensitive subject, but it was mentioned to me on one or two occasions and the attitude was 'They are yours'.

There was, historically, huge investment in Argentina from the UK years ago, and that manifests itself in very obvious buildings like railway stations that look just like the ones we have here.

The one surprising aspect I didn't expect, and I heard this from numerous people, was their regret about the Royal Navy being defeated in the first battle of the River Plate in 1816 or whenever it was after Spain had granted them independence. They thought the country would be a far less corrupt place if they had been part of the British Empire with due legal processes being introduced.

Those were the thoughts of the locals that were never more than friendly when they found out I was British, and I have to say it didn't feel like a poor country when I was there. When I mentioned it, that was their response.

There wasn't any negative I can think of while I was there.
