Anyone been to Turkey this year?

Loved Kalkan when we holidayed there three years ago, however they know how to charge for booze!
They're not stupid and raise the prices in line with the exchange rate
The cost of alcohol is the reason we won't be going back to Turkey

This was the lunchtime view from the beach bar we used

Most bars charge less than £2 a pint of beer my local 19 tl a pint of draught which is £1
Bottle of wine between £4-£5
Cocktails about £2-50p and about the same for a double gin and lemonade
Some places in Turkey are more expensive ie Bodrum ,Istanbul but on the coast it still dirt cheap
Yesterday
Bought 5 pints draught effes 3 pints of shandy 2 glasses of wine worked out £14
That was in Altinkum
Some off licence charge more for bottles of Effes than the bars do
Still never worked that out

Apparently it’s about 90 minutes Dalaman to Kalkan, but on the return we’re meeting up with a few people in Antalya so flying from there the following day, apparently it’s about 3 hours ?

You'll love it. Been to Kalkan in September for 7 years on the bounce but last year was cancelled so we're going twice this year, May and September. Always wondered what it was like earlier in the year so this year we're going to find out.

Keep an eye out for the turtles which hang around the harbour and public beach. My girlfriend got some fantastic underwater footage of them last time we were there.

Dropped a bollock though. Exchange rate last time we went was 8 lire to the pound so when it went to 10 I went against my better instincts and bought £750 worth. Now it's nearer 20 so I've lost £370 on my only ever foray into currency speculation. And, on that note, take sterling with you as just about any shop will give you a better exchange rate than you can get here.

Was there in December.

Take £,€,$ and forget the lira, it’s worthless and they don’t want it.

It is unusually cold for this time of year
Istanbul ,Ankara have had snow just a week ago
Hopefully start to warm.up next week

Been Turkey 4 times. Gumbet, kusadasi, Marmaris and Oludeniz, the last time there in 2015. Great weather friendly locals and fantastic food. Plus the scenery is beautiful.

Oluudeniz was my favourite place. Paragliding (twice) off Babadag mountain from 6000ft was spectacular and exhilarating. I stayed in the beach resort of Oludeniz and not Hisaronu which is a couple of miles up the mountain, often advertised as Oludeniz which it isnt.

As Arnie once said - "I'll be back"...
