Anyone else a bit fed up of football?

Even if you don’t like rugby, tune in to the NRL Grand Final at 08:30 tomorrow morning and watch what exciting sport with fans in the stadium looks like. Then compare it to what football has been like.

Football is woeful to watch at the moment, even with more goals and surprising results. We’ve just got used to it’s shitness so think it’s alright but it’s not.

Nothing has changed as much under Covid than football. The game of the strip of grass being played without fans is the biggest disappointment going at the moment. Even though I’m in the house much more than before Covid, I’m actually watching less football. I would usually tune in to whatever was on, if it was a match day I’d make sure I was in the pub for early games before going to the game, and back to the pub to watch the late game after we’d played.

Now I’m barely bothering, don’t check the scores, haven’t looked at the table yet. Every time I do tune in, I’m bored and on my phone instead.

What I find increasingly is a lack of engagement with the team. I can't put my finger on it, maybe its just a bit of mourning for the team that was: Joe, Zab, Vinnie, Fern, Dave, Kev, Kun, Mario, Joleon, Gaz Baz, Leroy, even delphenio all players that were either likeable or exciting to watch or in most cases both.

Of the team that started today I only feel 'engaged' with Kun, maybe Eddie, Kyle and Raz.
The rest, meh...I genuinely couldn't care less if they got sold tomorrow. Maybe Dias and Ake will grow into legends but at the minute I feel very disengaged. It just feel different to me. Anyone else feel the same?

Definitely.

Feels like we haven’t built bonds with new players and are losing them with ones we already built them with, from just watching on tele.

Plus I don’t particularly like some of our players (Rodri, Mahrez... don’t like their games), and don’t particularly enjoy watching others (Sterling, Cancelo... frustrating to watch).

At the game you end up getting behind them a bit more or get your frustrations with them out more easily by having a good shout. Watching from home every week is frustrating with those whose games aren’t exciting or enjoyable.

Maybe that’s why lads and family members I know who stopped going to City for various reasons (some were home and away fans for years, others had been going regularly since the 1960s) don’t miss it. It’s easy to lose that connection with the players/team/club. I’ve never understood how they don’t miss it even though they were die-hards, but i am starting to understand it.

Definitely fed up of VAR, no crowds, matches being like training games half the time, the unnaturalness of it all. Players being run into the crowd eg us but it's not only us as all teams are really going to suffer especially those playing every 3 or 4 days.

The insanity of squeezing in all these internationals and then Euros at the end of it all!!!

I haven't even bothered watching the second half of each of our last three games - bored of it. Don't know how long all players can go through this same scenario every game without fans there - that's half the reason they play at the top level.

I hardly recognise the football that is being played at the moment. I hope its temporary and we recapture our collective mojo.

Internationals should be banned. All the money put into the Euros should go to lower leagues around Europe.

de Bruyne summed it up in his post match interview against Newcastle in the FA Cup; “I don’t like playing like this, with no fans, but I’m a professional so have to keep doing it”

If ever the game wanted to make it any more obvious they are totally disconnected with thier audience it's been during this covid nightmare.

The top tier basically don't need us. Kind of feels like they don't want us either.

Add to the fact we've mainly been poor to watch I've lost interest and find it hard to feel much affinity with our current team/squad.

Glass half full I know but hard to see out of it when you can't even go to the game...

I'm becoming more and more detached. I have an ST in CBL3, an ST for MCWFC, and I go and watch the kids as often as I could. Today I thought I'd keep an eye on the first team via the MDC, and I'd watch the kids on CityTV+. After we went behind, i thought 'Bugger it'! I switched on the kids half an hour after ko - 1-1 and we were passing and passing and passing. Saw one chance where I could have blown it in, and then went to the butcher's. And the butcher was showing the end of match highlights, Sergio fouled in the area, Foden scoring, Raheem making a dog's breakfast much to the chagrin of some baldy guy in the techy area, and I was back on song. Roll on the next game!
