Anyone fancy us for 5th next season?

I expect 3rd or 4th with possible FA Cup win. No European involvement is a plus over our rivals for these spots.

Sod Barry playing in the middle. He is absolutley the perfect left side key between Bridge and Rob which is where effectively he will play.

Given we'll have a decent forward line (Tevez / Eto etc) - this puts us way beyond Villa/Everton/Spuds and I think beyond Arsenal too.

My one worry is we will still be a bit thin if Barry / Superman suffer injuries. There's no way Elano is a top 4 player (and looks like the whinger is off anyway) - but I think we'll just have to cross everything and hope they can turn out for 30 plus games each.

A lot will depend on luck - if we can turn out our best team against other top 5.

Elano is definitley a top 4 player, hes class back up for barry and ireland as long as hughs keeps him happy hel play well and the depth to the squad will be great if we keep him. His passing ability is probably superior to Barrys its just more of a woman than barry.

Absolutely ....... there can now be few excuses for us.

Things seriously need to change positively for this club now .... we have to come out with a winning mentality next season ....... and that means aiming most definetely to actually WIN the Premiership itself .

We aren't in Europe , so distractions will be at a minimal other than the domestic cup competitions ........ and the players shouldn't be as 'tired' either!

We win as many games as possibly can , taking it on step at a time , and see where it takes us ...... we're spending big money now , so big things are expected of us ....... top 5/6 is an absolute must for us , and our owners ... at worst!!

If we come out before any season merely intent on 'settling' for any finishing position then .....

a) players , old and new alike , will question our short-term ambitions ..... and some may not even want to join us on the basis of that!

b) You won't get the maximum response from your players ..... they need to turn up , home and away , expecting to win the game ..... anything else and you're gonna be beaten before you start ...... we need to start letting the 'big four' know that we're around , and we're staying , as soon as we can ... like yesterday!

You can bet that Aston Villa won't come out next season settling for any one position ..... they'll want to win everything , including the Premiership ... full stop!

Depends who we sign. To be honest I'd be disappointed if we don't bring the right players in and finish 4th.

I agree with this

and if we get the right players and don't finish 4th Hughes will struggle to keep his job ..... the public target may 6th but if we have a very good transfer window the targets will have to change

The team is relatively new and I still think needs time to 'bed' in. The nucleus of what we expect the team to be have really only had 4-5 months together, DeJong and Bridge coming in in Jan (Given is arguable as to how long it takes a keeper to settle in team play). Robinho,SWP,Kompany and it could be argued that Neds and Ireland just one season. The remainder, with possibly the exception of Richards look like they will be out of favour as starting 11. That leaves us 3-4 players who haven't played at all (Barry and CB,CF,RB). Realistically I can't see us breaking the top four, but we should certainly be pushing them, taking points off them and improving our away form from last season. 2010-11 is where MCFC become serious contenders.

A top 6 finish (preferably >6) and a trip to Wembley, whether that's a final or semi is minimum requirement for me next season. Failure to that requirement means we need to be looking elsewhere other than the pitch for a change.

Lol no it couldn't, although you're overall point is a fair one. The players signed in jan should be used to each other and the team by now and ready for the start of the season. Yes new players will take time to bed in but the ony player we've signed so far should slot straight in no probs and I expect the other players we sign to be of such talent that they will instantly raise the bar at the club. Top 6 is a must this season but like I said before I think we should be capable o bringing in the right players and getting into the top 4

Well, you know what I mean. We've only just got the real Ned and Ireland a season ago.

Hmm, I dunno. I'm still of the opinion that it takes a good half a season for new players to settle in. Contrary to what everyone is saying I think it will take a while before Barry fits into the jigsaw. Just look at Baconface's blueprint. All his signings seem to take a year to settle and they are usually just 1 or 2 that have to fit into an already established champions team. We are virtually a whole team that has to fit into a pile of shit!*

* this may contain traces of exaggeration for effect.
