It's 25 yrs since I tried anything like this but here goes

2a(squared)b(times)3a(cubed)b(squared)

must equal ((2 x (a x a)) x b) x (3 x (a x a x a) x (b x b) ?

Am i on the right track?
erm, i dunno, anyone?

its something like that. you have to break it down then collect like terms. i think the answer to that one is 6a^5 x b^3??? ( the ^ means 'to the power of') its been about six years since i've done these hope this helps.

All you need to do is multiply the numbers infront of the a or bs and then add up the powers

for example
2ab * 4a²b
First you multiply the 2 by the 4 giving 8.
Then a by a² is a³
And b by b is b²

which all together gives 8a³b²

for the one with the minus sign you have to factorise which means take common terms from each and put them outside brackes

eg

8ab² - 4ab

they're both divisible by 4,a and b so you take that outside and see what's left

8ab² divided by 4ab = 2b and 4ab divided by 4ab = 1
so your answer is 4ab(2b-1)

with the division do the topline first and then cancel common terms in the top and bottom line.

Hope that helps.
I'll check your answers if you'd like
