Anyone met a famous celebrity and worth a post?

Not even Barnardos ? He'll they had mine most weekends.

A CRB check doesn't guarantee that a carer is 'safe'... it just means they don't have a criminal record, or haven't been caught.

Barnardo's is historically one of the best/safest places for 'at risk' etc children. They're not squeaky clean - there are bad apples in every organisation - but it would be worse if it didn't exist.

Our children are our most precious possession.

Looking back quite a few, some fleeting, some proper chats and a few drinks

Karl Denver ( Singer). used to drive his big American car down our street in Hulme when I was a kid as he was shagging a woman who lived around the corner.

Graham Haberfield who played Jerry Booth in Coronation street and Winston in the dustbinmen. He used to play golf at Mere. My mate sold him some golf balls and he said he'd pay him next time he saw him. A couple of days later he died of a heart attack my mate was fuming he never got his money lol.

Drank with Kevin Kennedy ( Curly) a few times in the Barleycorn when he was a pisshead. Also saw him in Charlie Brown's and Valentines in Chorlton. On the Coronation Street theme saw Vera, Denise Welsh and her husband Tim Healy ( Dennis in Auf Wiedershen Pet) in Euston station. Dev once sat adjacent to me on the train home from Euston chatted a bit, nice bloke. Bumped into Sally and Kevin Webster in Altrincham a couple of times. Years ago my sister was chosen to appear in a documentary filmed by Peter Plummer for Granada. We were all invited to the studios to watch the rough cut before it was edited and shown on TV. Coming out we saw Pat Phoenix and my sister got her autograph.

Saw Oasis and chatted to them in the bar of the Stena Fantasia when we brought them back from France, good crack. Bill Wyman was on one of the ships too with that Mandy and her sister before the scandal broke she was underage. We also carried Michael Jackson but the security around him was unreal.

Used to drink with Tony Book a few times in Tenerife every summer in the Brahms and Lists. Got to know him and his friends very well.

Was on the piss with Ronnie Biggs in Rio 1985. Nice bloke to chat to.

My hat is tipped in your general direction Paul.

I met a bloke earlier today looked familiar and as he was being arrested thought bit tight that because all he was doing was singing Do you wanna be in my gang? To a group of young girls.
Seems he has been recalled to prison.
He was in a shop buying chocolates. The assistant asked if he wanted after eights, GG asked if they had anything younger.

Did he say anything about him & his Monkey or how he was going to entertain you?
Seriously he was too busy thinking of what bullshit he could come up with after trying to bed a 17 year old girl who worked for our Company.
His old fella was the MC at the hotel and thankfully he dragged the fucker away when it started to go tits up for poor Robbie. The long haired twat as he was in those days. (back in the 1990`s).

Sister worked as a dental nurse in Ashton , Stuart Hall was a mate of one of the dentist and would quite regularly visit . She said you could hear him entering the building where all the young dental nurses would run for cover . Said he was a proper lairy touchy feely bastard
A school friend of my sister won the chance to meet him at the BBC in the early 70’s and took our kid along as a guest …. “inappropriate towards two 16 year old girls” was how she described him.

I never thought of it like that. The missus was inside and City were away. What was I meant to do ?

You did the best you possibly could in the circumstances. Which is exactly what a good parent should do.

We take risks in life every day. I'm sure they were in your thoughts every minute they weren't with you. It must have been a terrible period in your life.
