Like the guy but he wasn't any use to us anymore in the prem really. Only really useful for the odd champions league away game. Too small, weak, immobile and not positive enough

"weak" - In what sense?

You beat me to it mate.Thats a fooking classic .. weak ?? WTF !!

In the sense of being physically not very strong. Usually only being capable of winning the ball when sliding in. The hard man image thing was a myth dreamt up by dorks

He kept NDJ out the team and limited him to 10 starts I think while Gareth started 30-31 games if I´m not mistaken. NDJ was a good player for us but massivly overrated by many blues imo, Gareth and James are both ahead of him and to answer the OP´s question no.

Big game player.

Dortmund/Real Madrid/Arsenal has his name written all over it.

Not needed for Wigan/Fulham at home and them sort of games.

As soon as he was sold, i said he would be the difference in the Champions League. It's obvious he has been missed, gutted he went. Would rather we kept him, offered him more cash and not bought Garcia.

Barry not fit 2 lace De Jong boots ?

Really ?

Jesus there are some blinkered views in this thread.

He made it clearly obvious he didn't want to stay so its a big fat cheerio from me.

He wouldn't have made a huge difference vs Madrid or Dortmund as he wasn't great in our European games and how would he have stopped villa scoring 4?

People seem to think he was superman.

Off the pitch he was clearly a big personality but hey, as I say, he wanted to go.

Immense player at what he does best, but didn't have the versatility to change with our team. Don't get me wrong, he could still do a job when called upon, but Barry and Yaya are more suited to our style of play now. So I guess him going was probably the best option for both parties.

Miss him though, and like many people have pointed out he was a big influence around the club. Will always wish him well.
