Yeah think i'll invest in a gel seat, especially seeings as i'm doing MCR>BPOOL next year.

Do you think this is worth the extra 50 sheets?

Easily.
Any reason why mate?

Want my advice? Steer away from Trek Bikes for the one reason is that component wise they are overpriced the same applies to Specialized who are both market leaders in the game UNLESS the deal is so good you can't turn it down. An earlier poster mentioned that pay the most you can afford for a bike and that's pretty good advice.

I recommend this site http://www.wiggle.co.uk/?utm_source...=wiggle uk&referid=googwig&utm_adgroup=Wigglefor internet buying of bikes they are superb service wise and have some great offers and at the moment have 20% off every bike, however if it is already discounted by more than 20% then no extra dizzy I am afraid. I have just bought a hybrid (which might be a better idea for you if you are not planning on any mad off road sessions!) from them and they are good.

My harem is now up to 4 bikes I can only ride one at a time but fook it.

One last bit of advice Mancs-Blackpool will be easier on a hybrid, I did it last weekend 3hours 32mins was on a carbon road bike mind, had a great time.

That's a nice bike but not ideal for long rides on the roads

Thing is, apart from the mcr-bpool ride i'm mainly gunna be using it off road

Stuck as whether to get that boss bike for £180 or splash £350 on the trek :/

If you spend your hard-earned before you discover how/why a bike should fit..then you double-daft. Fit is everything, it's the reason why folk that know bikes refuse to purchase one off the shelf (got the extra expense of changing out parts to tweak the geometry).

Once you've sizes sussed the next move should be geography...where you gonna ride it cause that will dictate what specification you will require...do you really fuckin need stupid disc brakes when tweaked v's will lock-up the tyres from single finger actuation...do you really need a bounze along fork to avoid knowing which line to take...if the answer to that last question is a yeah....then leave enough change in the buying for an helmet ('honestly'). Spend in haste...repent at leisure still holds true.

Good time Discopop, me mechanic did 3hr 20mins on a steel (853) rigid mountainbike (rohloff hub/slicks)....he's 52yr old (well looned like)

Am I right in thinking that good V brakes would be better than cheap discs ye?

You got in one..kid. Cheap discs are a nightmare....good v's (avids) with quality pads (kool or Swissstop) and you'll go anywhere the biggest % of riders go with the exception of the body armour mob (the one's that are not keen on actually peddling/snide skiers).

Was thinking that would be the case, how are Tektro V's?

Im a complete noob to all this (as you can probably tell!)

I myself prefer discs, gots V's on my workbike and Disc's on my MTB and just, both Rockhoppers a year apart just prefer the feel from the MTB, but depends on the main use, my MTB gets hammered, knee deep in mud and water aint no good with V brakes.
As said previous, go for the best you can afford, if LL cant deal you in go elsewhere and try your luck,
I am looking for another MTB in the £1k - £1300 bracket, bit of a mare as there is so much out there and I dont know if I want to move away from Specialized or not because I do like the ride.
