Apparently there was 'huge numbers' of empty seats...

It's from the Daily Fail, so it could be.......

I won't post a link. Feel free.

But the Scouser's are one set of fans who have jumped on the Emptyhad jibe, so if it's true, pot-kettle-black!

*Liverpool risk upsetting their fans again with an initiative that could see ticket holders' seats given away if they arrive late to matches at Anfield from next season.

It is understood the club are looking at ways to fill an average of 1,000 seats that remain empty during home games - many of them held by season-ticket holders who do not attend.

Club officials are looking to determine the feasibility of inviting a number of pre-registered fans to turn up on match days and be escorted into the ground after a certain amount of time to use empty seats free of charge.*

Not a bad idea if they use it for kids, OAP's, people on benefits etc.

Just thinking out loud, there may be something in this, although not in the manner suggested.

What if the nature of a season ticket was changed from the current absolute entitlement to a particular seat, to an arrangement where a season ticket holder had the option to take that particular seat for any or every home game. The cost of a particular season ticket could be reduced with a charge being levied each time the option was taken up. If by, say, 24 hours before the game the option hasn't been taken up, the seat goes on general sale, presumably at full face value.

The pricing structure would need to be as such that neither the base cost of the season ticket nor the unit price of the option were too high or low, but this structure could possibly provide a solution to this problem without penalising season ticket holders who are perfectly entitled to cherry pick games as they see fit imo.

Maybe there's some fatal flaw in this idea - maybe it's been done elsewhere and failed for reasons which I haven't yet grasped - but on the face of it, it seems at least worthy of some exploration by the club, not least because it could increase gate receipts and/or reduce the cost of match day tickets.

It doesn't sound too bad to me. I've no doubt someone will poke a hole in it, but in principle it looks OK.

If Liverpool do what that article is suggesting, then good on Liverpool.

I was there and from where I sit there were clear gaps in the usual areas - Lower Tier Family Stand and Joe's/93:20 in the Colin Bell, as well as the Director's Box (or whatever it's called). The club makes itself look completely stupid by claiming a record attendance when it was clearly nothing of the sort.

We're getting as bad as the rags for propaganda.
I agree with this. When that article came out about United lying about attendances we ripped it out of them but we're on the daft propaganda slant too. There were chunks of empty seats in the Family Stand all game last week.

Not a bad idea at all.

How many empty seats will there be today? I reckon 1256 seats shall be vacated.
I wonder what the papers say...

No big deal on its own. However, we have a problem if the Club put ticket prices up for everyone because (a) "no shows" are used to evidence under prices tickets or (b) negative media reduces sponsorship deals.

I'm not sure on the Scousers proposal but Kloppy's arrival has turned the spotlight on fans turning up late and leaving early because this was reported not to happen in Dortmund.

I think the Club could look at GDM's idea. We will need to encourage more late / on the days sales to fill a soon to be 61k ground

Another idea (that might have been floated already) is cash back or a discount on next yesr's season card, if the card is used for all home league games that season.

The club will be earning enough to incentivise/reward those who turn up every single game. Would they do it though?

What's up with the online ticket section? The image shows blocks with (low) tickets available but when you click on them to actually buy one there are non available? Been like this for days

It was the same for Leicester when the seats were sold out. Maybe, this encourages fans to contact the Club who then offer to sell corporate tickets. This is guesswork but corporate sales must have been good for the Leicester game with the club announcing record tickets sold!

I am not sure if the Club would or not but if give it a go. It couldn't be too big an amount eg ten percent of the season card cost.

Also, the ticket / loyalty points aren't the incentive they used to be. If the Corporate area is expanded then that will be extra people given priority for away tickets with fewer tickets for the rest of us. Therefore, IMHO, the incentive needs to be a cash one!
