Apprentice Union?

Going back to my apprenticeship (admittedly 30 odd years ago) we were able to join a union, but we were not allowed to strike.
There was a strike where I worked and we just turned up and did fuck all for a few days.
A strike at the end of the 70's? Surely not?

-- Tue May 29, 2012 3:08 pm --

It looks like it's happening today judging by the number of people posting on here.

I know, a rare thing indeed - it would have been around 82, as i passed my test in November 81. I was in the parts department of a Ford dealer (hated every minute of it, love driving cars but have no fucking interest in them!).
The strikers prevented the Ford wagon dropping of the delivery of new parts, so I had to drive the tranny van to a rival Ford dealer, who allowed me to collect the boxes from there and return to my garage with them.

Is there a union for apprentices?

If not how the hell would i go about starting one?

Why don't you finish your apprenticeship. Be grateful to your employer for giving you the opportunity of an apprenticeship. Actually give something back in return to your employer before you think of starting a union?

Find out which Unions organise for your trade or line of work and contact them.I`m sure they will give you all the advice you need. Don`t take any notice of the tory anti union dickheads who post on here, you have a fantastic idea, especially with all the attacks workers are facing at the moment. Go for it mate.

Yes, that is the way forward, a union for fucking tea boys and girls! This would be the killer for a lot of apprenticeships. I know i wouldn't take one on, if they enquired about unions. 'Tory dickhead" lol.
