aquilani to city?

Aquilani was very good on loan at Juve and one of the best passers in Serie A, it's just that they didn't want to pay the agreed transfer fee of £14million which I can't blame them for. I haven't seen him much at Milan but they are cheap (see: Tevez saga in January) and signed a similar player Montolivo (who we could have had a look at for the regista position) on a Bosman so have no need to pay for Aquilani.

Yaya, Barry, Milner, NDJ & Nasri.

None of them can play the specialised role that Aquilani can, the same role as Pizarro (Scholes, Pirlo). We have many midfielders of a similar type but none who can play deep-lying playmaker position and spray passes all over the pitch with great accuracy. One player of this type is always great for a squad and many Champions League winning sides have had a player like this who can dictate the game from deep.

I am sure that Nasri can do the passer role, and maybe Milner who hadn't have enough time in his preferred position ( CM ).

Milner doesn't have the vision and Nasri has never even been tried as a deep-lying midfielder to the best of my knowledge and how many long passes have we seen him make? He always seems to keep it short and simple. Players can't just slot into this role, it's one of the most difficult in football which is why having someone who is a natural at it is great for any squad.

Maybe you are right, but you can't rule them out unless you give them a run in this position and see how they will perform.

I think that Cirigliano kid from River Plate would be the best option. He's another Pizzaro type player but can tackle and breakup play. He's 20 years old and highly coveted, would cost around the same price as Aquilani.

From memory a manager at Marseille did play Nasri as a deep-lying midfielder and said it was what he thought was Nasri's best position. However I think when Arsenal signed Arshavin they tried Nasri there and it didn't work mainly because his defensive ability is not good for him to sit in the centre.

Very nice goal but not something he does all the time and I could point out more misplaced passes than Hollywood passes like that from him. There's no way he has the passing range or consistently to be a deep-lying playmaker, just can't see it in him at all. He was great in his position before he inexplicably got dropped shortly after the 6-1 but he's not a 'regista', England hasn't had a real one in eons except Paul Scholes.
