Are Fleetwood Mac the wildest band ever?

Q Magazine called this tour the "most debauched rock tour ever". Well known drink and drug hoodlums Primal Scream were supporting this tour but after seeing the excess laid out in front of them they decided to give it all up and recorded their next album without powder, pill or spliff. One band member left the tour due to "mental instability". One member was a functioning alcoholic. One member would try to commit suicide a year later and then did die for 2 minutes the year after that due to a speedball overdose. This member also had drug induced heart attacks on stage during the tour. After the tour another member left the group altogether.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you, Depeche Mode, and their year long world tour in 1994.

When I saw the thread title they were the band that popped into my mind. You'd have struggled to predict what they would go on to become when they first appeared fresh faced doing New Life on TOTP!

Dave Gahan is 60 now which given what he's put his body through is an achievement in itself. Hopefully he'll continue to defy the odds.

It's Zeppelin by a mile surely ?
Their US tours were absolutely unbelievable. Some believe that they reaped bad karma in the shape of deaths, accidents and other bad fortune.

You get the feeling some bands set out to have bad reputations while others were genuinely terrible people.

Lemmy and Co are your guys for this one, although Daltrey and Co where also guilty. Watched a documentary whereby on the US tour a room was trashed and the Who management, for some reason, paid for the damages in cash, the hotel managemnt then claimed on the insurance. Needless to say they where a cash cow to such a extent any hotel that needed a suite refurbishing put the Who in and stood back....rinse and repeat. The Who lost a lot of money on the US tours.

How Fleetwood Mac managed to function, let alone be a highly successful band, is remarkable given their totally dysfunctional nature. Christine and John McVie's marriage collapsed and she shacked up with the band's lighting manager during the making of Rumours. Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks had a long running on-off love-hate relationship during which he frequently assaulted her. On one occasion in front of the rest of the band he knocked her about, pushed her flat on his car bonnet and started to strangle her. Mick Fleetwood was subsequently shagging Nicks, his own wife having run off with an earlier band member some time previously.

Tbh Shaun Ryder is one of the worst but he wasn’t being a hellraiser he was just living the normal life of an addict who luckily had an income to support his needs
