Are people thicker these days?

One of the issues is that Hollywood now makes films specifically with a worldwide market in mind. That means you want simple shit that translates well into any language and has absolutely no controversy that might lead to it getting banned in certain places. And of course recognisable stuff. Look at the list of highest grossing films ever:

1. Avatar
2. Titanic
3. franchise
4. franchise
5. franchise
6. franchise
7. sequel
8. sequel
9. Frozen
10. sequel
11. spin off

An ex of mine was a bit 'thick' in some ways.

On driving back from a weekend in Scarborough, we were on the A64 near the junction on the A1. After assuring her I knew the journey well enough not to need a satnav or to follow a Manchester homing pigeon she blurted out "A1 North, follow that".
... "we need A1south".... "No we don't, we need A1 North".. I said "why you say that".. And just like the dumb woman in Peter Kay car share she quipped
"Because we live in the North!"

No, I think the population is higher, so there are more thick people around, just as there are also more intelligent ones around.

Plus, with the prevalence of social media, everyone's opinion can be heard, and the phrase 'empty vessels make the most sound', (or these days tweets/youtube videos/reality tv shows), still holds true.

Without doubt. I am playing about with an early 20s barmaid from our local juicer. Some of the spelling in her texts is beyond wrong. She told me this morning how her shift last night left her nackard, and how she felt self conscious because she has a coldsaw on her lip.

I wouldn't call "Titanic" an original idea...

The younger end of my family are thicker than when i was their age, they are great at technology but their understanding of general knowledge is woeful
Trying to explain to them what is going on in the world today is nigh on impossible, their geography is none existent they couldn't get around Britain or even England without technology so god knows what they would be like in Europe or the rest of the world, my 21 year old niece though Thailand was near America and America's capital was New York, and don't get me started on history with the thick fuckers, it's criminal

Totally agre with this, people seem to know less about the world and it's history unless it comes from Facebook or tv reality show. A lot also is to do with what is shown on tv, there seemed to be more educational stuff in the terrestrial channels so you either watched it or read a book, now you have to search for it on Discovery channel etc if you have SKY otherwise there's nothing apart from David Attenborough stuff. The best thing for me about technology is that I don't have to get a bus to the library if I want to find something out, whereas most use it for social media and porn

History wise I doubt many under the age of 25 could tell you who historical figures from this country like henry II, alfred the great, newton, stephenson, brunel and even dick turpin were.

Do young uns still get taken to styal mill and other sites and taught about stuff, my school took us there, chatsworth house, the blue john mines, nottingham (to learn about robin hood) and many other places of historical value, we also had an allotment plot at parrs wood so we could learn to grow food and other useful skills.
