Are "superstar" players afraid to transfer to Premier League from Europe?

Meh...

It's about money and prestige.

Barca and Real Madrid are the two clubs most players - at least in the past 5 years plus - want to play for, because of their history. It's not about being afraid of playing in the PL, IMO.

Are superstar players afraid to play in Premier League?
Or perhaps we elevate their superstar status because they haven't?
Could it be one of the following reasons and they understand how difficult the Premier league is hence:
  • Fear of failure
  • Tougher competition for trophies
  • Fear of being found out
  • Player stats wouldn't be so good
  • Less guarantees of silverware than in one team leagues/ farmer league
  • British weather and British way of living and language barriers
  • English clubs don't pay what they do on the continent
  • Foreign clubs are able to pay players extra money off the books.
  • The birds are hotter on the continent
Look at players who have not played (or it's suggested they won't) in Premier league who we consider superstars or future behomoths
  • Messi
  • Neymar
  • Ronaldinho
  • Ronaldo
  • KaKa
  • Figo
  • Zidane
  • Mbappe
  • Haaaland
I purposely never added names like Maradona as that is of a different era.

Has the Premier league ever been able to draw a top superstar player in prime of his ability?
i think thor plays here

Messi was scared , pussy

Yes HAALAND imho has been the first superstar player (at his peak or to p[lay his peak years) to join the Premier league from another league! :)
Several have become superstars after playing in Premier league but not what is being discussed here.

No you have 4. Patrick Vieiria is on that list by virtue of his Arsenal career. Not the huffing and puffing he did as a 35 year old. Scored more goals for us than he played games for you.

Why would they be afraid? Messi mugged of every premier league club whoever qualified for the CL at some stage in his career. The PL is not the gold standard for football. The greatest club side ever is probably Pep's Barcelona with the Xavi, Iniesta, Messi axis. Messi for one doesnt have anything to prove in the Premier League. He is better than any player to have ever played in English football.

If Messi played in the PL he would absolutely have clocked up the goals he scored in La Liga. We also need to note no domestic league English footballer has ever lit up a World Cup. Like Zidane in 98, Ronaldo in 2002, the Spain midfield of 2010. Why didnt all those English league players stop Maradona making them look like Muppets in 86?

Whenever someone says 'hasnt proven it in the Premier League' I cringe.
