There is a god Barry's gone!!!
After the game today and watching the amount of chances we created and missed are we a striker short from having the squad needed to dominate for the for the long term. Look at Liverpool with Jota and Mane and Salah garanteed to get good amount of goals. We have a good range of goals throughout the team but not a forward who will score us 20 plus league. Our top league scorer has 11 goals not bad for a midfielder but the lacking of getting 20 plus league goals is it going to cost us.

I look at Jesus scored today took his goal well a run in the league as a central striker from now to the end of the season would he be able to get the goals needed to help us retain the title. Looking at Sterling tonight not a natural goal scorer but saying that was unlucky with the 1 ruled out as he finished it well. Just lacking the killer touch in the box. For me if he had a better finidhing rate we wouldnt be looking for a striker.

Does a Haaland or a Kane type of player score the goals or make us the complete squad I think they get us the 20 plus league goals which would hopefully give us more of that killer touch in the final third.

Yes if our current players had a better finishing rate it wouldnt be an issue imo.

We need a striker to replace Aguero and Torres, a left back to replace Mendy and a defensive midfielder to replace Fernandinho. If we sort that we have the perfect squad.
I reckon Ronaldo, Shaw and McTominay could be prised from the rags, what with the turmoil that’s happening at the swamp!

A striker is the glaring gap in our squad but its far from perfect. We need another fullback to replace he who shall not be named, and a Fernandinho replacement as minimum. Those 3 along with alvarez would give us a fairly complete squad. Even then there's always room for improvement, stay still and we go backwards.

I want a striker that can score goals from chances with low xG and and he should be scoring sitters (high xG) regularly at a very high rate.

turning half chances into goals would be magic given how many of those we create.

but also think defences would react some way completely trying to block and isolate our striker like Haaland making his life hell but it would come at a cost of having bit more space for our other players running into the box from wing and deeper.

We still will need imo high scoring wingers next to Haaland for this reason. defences will react and adapt. Thats why I would not mind to change in Sterling or Jesus or even Mahrez for a really clinical winger. (and would not use Grealish in the front three unless he improves his numbers big time)

Pep really would have more tactical tricks available if Haaland and Alvarez are ready to rock and roll.

Obviously agree with posts above. A striker at least. Anybody upfront leaving, a replacement. With attributes adding to the existent ones within the squad, eg acceleration, pace, off ball movement, finishing (an attribute we don't pay much attention to for some reason), etc. A DM/CM. A full back.

These are all minimum requirements. And if they get covered in the summer, it would already be one year late. Which is the case for some of our transfers (Ruben's being a classic example, yet not the only one)...

I think we need another no 6 and a top left back also a winger with better finishing on top of the striker to be a perfect squad, but by perfect a high bar

Completely agree. I work on the basis of two players for every position:

Ederson/Steffen

Walker/Cancelo
Dias/Stones
Ake/Laporte
Zinchenko/new LB

Rodri/New DM
Gundogan/Bernardo
De Bruyne/Grealish

Foden/Jesus
Alvarez/Haaland?
Sterling/Mahrez

Obviously the pairings aren't set in stone and we are far more flexible but you get the idea.

I think if Sterling goes then we look at Palmer coming in. He hasn't quite played enough to be considered established but I think this will come in time. Such a shame about his injury.
