Are we a out and out striker short from being the squad we all want?

It’s criminal that this side doesn’t have a striker fighting it out for top scorer. Liverpool have 3 forwards in the top 4 scorers. Our top scorer is a midfielder. Our forwards sit behind Ivan Toney in the top scorers charts.

I know we share the goals around and have done for a long time, but people getting excited over the likes of Mahrez scoring 6 open play goals all season in this side blows my mind.

Aguero was an incredible player and he consistently showed what a forward in this team should be delivering. That is the standard for a team trying to win every competition they are in. Any forward at City stumbling to double figures for goals over an entire season, is a level of mediocrity we would not accept in any other position in the side.

Foden should be playing wide left every game and then you could easily make an argument for replacing every other forward at the club.

We are ,IMO , just about the best team in Europe, so there is minimal room for any improvement. The right striker, and there are a very small handful of them, will improve our squad. Only by a small amount though and it has to be the right striker not any old striker because as well as scoring they have to be able to fit the team and contribute a whole lot more than scoring.

I think it’s more than just a striker we need.

You go back to our previous title winning squads and we’ve always had 3/4 big game players. What I mean by that is players capable of producing match winning moments in the biggest games.

Under Mancini we had Vinny, Kun and Yaya, whereas KDB took over from Yaya under Pep. You think of the biggest of games and those players came up with the vital goals.

At the moment we only have KDB who we can rely on to produce the big moments.

I said yesterday that I’d currently make Liverpool favourites for the title and that’s because I think we have another game or two equivalent to the Newcastle away under Mancini or Leicester at home (Vinny’s screamer) in which I don’t see us scoring or someone stepping up with a moment of magic to win.

Hopefully we can learn from the Palace and Southampton performances this season and start punishing teams.

We were crying out for a proper striker against Liverpool and many other games - yes. A striker like Haaland could have probably bagged a hattrick in that game.

surely people see that putting a striker on the pitch will inherently mean there is one less midfielder and therefore less chances will be created? surely it's debatable that overall goals scored might not really change? I too get frustrated at spurned chances but i am very happy that we create so many. Anyway, i suspect we will revert to a striker next season.
This is exactly why it's not just any striker we need. It requires a top 3 in the world striker to improve us - Haaland, Kane or Mbappe.

Or, if we win the treble without a striker and we sign Haaland and fail to win the tree next year, did we need a striker at all.

Whilst I agree, if we had a Haaland or Kane they would score bucket loads from the chances we create.

But, a change of system and style could lead to those chances drying up. Let’s not forget we’ve put 4 past Liverpool this season.

Which is why Harry Kane is the perfect player for us. He’s a striker who’s good enough to play a false 9 as well.

our creation of chances would be different if we had a striker, having said that sterling is not a striker but found himself in a lot of goal scoring positions but being either a yard behind or a yard in front.
the danger in a striker is he would spend time not being in the game, or pep would have him hanging back playing in the build up. I think if we sign a striker we will from time to time sit him on the bench and play how we have this season.

In answer to the thread title yes absolutely, however the fact that we're top of the league with the second highest number of goals means it isn't a crisis. But if you look at the stats since Pep's arrival our average goals per game has dropped off by half a goal since we effectively lost our only out and out striker after the 19/20 season. Arguably in other areas we're better than ever so a top striker would make us truly dominate.
