Are we ( English fans ) an embarrassment nowadays

Although it was kind of funny watching the emirates getting taken over last night, there is an underlying issue. As fans, we are targets abroad. The violence in Marseilles with 1000 drunk blokes getting hammered by 12 Russians, amongst other incidents. It's like we're getting bullied. Not saying the 70s & 80s looked nice, ( I wouldn't know ) but it's embarrassing how as fans the English are a laughing stock nowadays. I can only see it getting worse, only a fool would go to Russia next year..
Didn't happen.

The Russians attacked random small groups of pissed up English blokes, the couple of times they came up against a worthy mob, they moved on to another load that were just there for a drink.

Not something they would have tried on before, but hey-ho.

What gets over looked with the Ingerlund hoolies, is it was all very well trashing Luxembourg, Switzerland and Norway, but the twats never showed up at Hampden Park or Italy or anywhere else a little risky. Or even at Wembley against the jocks come to think of it!

Yep well said. I notice more it's blokes in there 40's and 50's rather than the younger generation - hopefully the old school Danny dyers will f*ck off and let the new generation go to football to enjoy the football and nothing else

There's still plenty of young chimps arm waving and toe bouncing.

They've just got a faster reverse gear than the previous generation.

I think any football fan who goes out to have a fight at the match is an absolute embarrassment. You see them on the news at England away games with their tops off, beer bellies out, caps on and tattoos everywhere with their arms outstretched thinking its some sort of invasion and I just look at them and think what a bunch of utter wank stains you are.

And that's just the women ;)

And people say that the ability to spell correctly is not important...

I'll be going to Russia next year. Will gauge the situation and keep my head down when necessary. I grew up knowing that English fans were hard core and would always travel in huge numbers. I don't think that's the case today. Remember that lokeren game? I don't know how many blues travelled for that but must have been around 10,000 and the stadium wasn't much bigger than that.

Was at italia 90 , all the so called hard men ran away soon as the fighting started

That was the case in the 70s but as the 80s progressed more and more England fans travelled to Hampden becoming far more brazen and there was a lot of trouble at the game I believe in 1989. It was in the main instigated by the England travelling support and was I believe the reason or one of the main reasons for this annual fixture ending.

The number of Scotland fans travelling down to Wembley post the swarm in 1977 gradually declined whether that was through lack of interest, stricter controls on their allocation or because of a more aggressive home support looking for trouble i don't know.

Compared to the germans yes. That cologne following was like a throw back to better days when fans were the most important ones. They still march en masse through the streets to games whereas we are sanitised and threatened by police and authorities alike.
