The extreme responses I read in some of these posts have become rather tedious and predictable. Many of you are either gung-ho (We're gonna win it, no danger!!) or pessimistic (no chance, Mancini out, etc). Let us examine the reality, coolly and dispassionately.
We clawed back a seemingly impossible points deficit last season because of two factors: (1) we strung together an impressive run of victories when it mattered, and (2) Utd imploded (or, if you wish, got the results that their average form deserved).
This season, we are scoring fewer, the Rags are scraping win after win (how many have they won by the odd goal?) and have an in-form striker. So what is the conclusion?
The likelihood is that we won't win it, based on facts not negativity. But by the same token, we must believe that we can, because we certainly CAN, but quite possibly will not. This is not being negative, simply realistic.
That is not to say we won't. It's a funny old game. I still have faith, but not blind fanaticism which ignores the facts. However, remember the words of Confucius: whether you think you can, or whether you think you can't, you're probably right.
My heart says we'll do it, but I'll need a little more reassurance from our strikers before I put aside cold probability.
As I say, I am not a pessimist. I am trying to bring a little rationality to the debate.
