Exactly right, but being born British means you've won it.

I'm not much of a nationalist, but our country is a pretty great place to live.

Its an interesting question and Ive thought about it......I think its an individual thing, My Mothers family was Irish and My fathers ancestry is Scottish and as a English Northerner I feel more affinity with Scotland & Ireland than I do with Southern England so I regard myself as British, the official name for our country is The United Kingdom Of Great Britain & Northern Ireland, England is only a part of that

I'm English. All of my family on both sides, as far back as I know about, like great great grandparents etc etc are all English. I don't have anyone who is from or was born anywhere other than England. For me, British is too Establishment.

Scotland and Wales asserting themselves more has meant that Britain is meaning less and less to all English, Scottish and Welsh. However, both my aunties (my mums 2 sisters) have moved away from England. One emigrated with her then husband to Australia and the other married a South African and moved there. Both always call themselves 'British' and despite living in both those Countries for decades still feel British. The one from Australia, refers to England as 'home', even though she moved there in the 1970's!!

I'm proud to be English and wouldn't have it any other way. I don't think that's arrogant.
