Are you religious?

there's a difference between believing that there could be a "God" of some kind and believing the prescribed religions that the majority currently follow.

A lot of people watched Transformers and the subsequent "films", leading me to the conclusion that if you follow a prescribed religion and watched more than one transformers movie(parents & people under duress excluded) that you are clinically braindead, you've clearly given up all hope of thinking for yourself.

More importantly, you're making Michael Bay a bankable director, and for that, some prescribed God somewhere will condemn you.

The simple point being, people don't like to think for themselves.

Here's the wonderful world of religion in the U S of A .........

One Family of extremists doesn't represent over 2 billion Christians worldwide. I had a standard Christian unbringing and these people were nothing like anyone I knew and preached things I'd never heard before. Protesting at the Funerals of Soldiers killed in Iraq or Afghanistan seems deeply un-Christian, IMHO.

Am I religious? I've drifted between believer, Atheist and Agnostic during my life. I'm genuinely unsure. I prefer the Christian way to the Atheist way but have too many doubts and unanswered questions to commit myself to something that I've got no solid proof for. Just a faith. I also don't like this new breed of aggressive secularlism as I've always been about live and let live. It's what someone believes and is none of my business.

i've never seen this god fella that people keep going on about so no,when i die i'll find out what its all about so until that day i'll worry about something worth worrying about like how i'm gonna put food on the table for my kids etc, religious nutters do my head in how they tell you how to live your life, bollox i'll live my life how i like whilst you freaks fiddle with kids or whatever else you do
Why is it when religion and individuals faith is discussed on here, the majority of those who disagree tend to generalise to extremes?

They would be representative if Christians actually believed what's in their holy book.

They do. In context, a hatred of homosexuals doesn't seem a particular Christian way to think. Christianity is about tolerance, love, charity, equality, conservative living etc. Do you honestly believe that The Westboro Baptist Church is the only group in the world who have it right whilst all the other Churches have it wrong?

It might not be representative of religion per se. It IS representative of how flawed the concept is when you consider how people use it to suit their own agenda which they do time after time. Many people complain about people being brainwashed into religion. To me thats bollocks. People are brainwashed by INTERPRETATIONS of religion which serve to further the aspirations of one or many individuals with a vested interest. That vested interest could be anything from money to power to political/social/sexual dominance. The mainstream religions are just as guilty as their hardline offshoots.

Read recently that 96% of the worlds population believe in a deity of some sort. Not judging anyone, you're entitled to believe in whatever you like.

Was suprised it's that high.

Discuss ...

Sensibly religious who engages common sense.

The Bible is a convoluted mess of self-contradicting shite, but a loving tolerant version is no more valid than a hateful one. It just depends how you cherry pick. Most people reject the more hateful strands and so most churches will naturally adapt to that because they want followers.
