I would probably say North Korea beating Italy in 66. Senegal had a lot of players playing in Europe and some born in France that had come through their youth system.

Yeah, I seem to remember that the entire annual production of Italian tomatoes got lobbed at the Italian players when they arrived back home.

I just don’t get it. If I believed it was all corrupt, I wouldn’t watch another second of the sport, whatever it was.

There is a difference between 'corrupt' and 'opaque'. I would be more than happy if I heard what was being said and could see what they are looking at, and they arrived at a decision that fitted what was said and seen.

One of my favourite WC memories. They were also well up on Portugal until a certain Eusebio got to work. Pak Doo-ik was superb.

There is a difference between 'corrupt' and 'opaque'. I would be more than happy if I heard what was being said and could see what they are looking at, and they arrived at a decision that fitted what was said and seen.

Either way, if it was proven, I’d walk away.

All we have at the moment is fans of every team suggesting it is corrupt against them.

Not really the thread for it, but even with 29 data points for each player, 12 cameras and how many frames per second, I still don't see how they can accurately call the position of a foot to 1cm.

5 data points in a foot leaves a lot of foot without a data point.

That's always been the case even before football put together the worst video assistance fans of world sports have ever seen, or not seen. Refs were always blind, linos were flag waving know-nowts. VAR just adds another element of potentially cheating fans of a bloody good goal!

It must have been my first televised binge watching because I was going crazy every time Banks ran to the edge of the area, threw the ball up in the air and then kicked it outside the area (if you see what I mean). I was sure it was handball every time. Can't say I'd ever noticed live. And I was wrong, of course. But I was young :)

Yet they can and do. It just needs to be accepted by fans, or those fans that can’t accept it need to become VAR officials so they can see how it works.

I think he was prime minister of Singapore. BBC used to pronounce it Lee Boom Sook.

Indeed, but it was left on the terraces and pubs and people got on with life without fans creating dossiers about how corrupt the game was against their team.
