Im sure the majority,especially those of a nervous disposition,will be glad to see the reasurring presence of extra security on our streets.I welcome the move.

The entire combined might of Police Forces across the whole of the UK is just under 130k. Trim possibly 20% off that number. It said on the news tonight that France had mobilized an extra 115k Policemen onto duty to cope with the present state of emergency - plus armed forces.

There is one reason, and one reason alone, why this govt keep cutting budgets for police forces in the way that they are. This is to break them, so that they can get private firms in to do some of the work. The police have trimmed off all that they can and there is nothing left to give. Yet they are still taking a further 20% off the budget. Its unbelievable. They want private firms in, but more specifically, they want G4S in. The man who did the policing review, Tom Winsor, is on the fucking board of the lawfirm who's primary client is G4S. There is a vested interest involved for this govt, it is not right, and it will end up making people less safe and less crime being either prevented or solved, but of course they dont care about that. They have massaged how the crime figures are recorded to ensure that it looks like they are coming down. Whenever the police complain about the budget cuts, all the govt do is quote crime figures and say 'what are you moaning about?' But this is in the knowledge that the crime figures are a myth created by themselves and that in any case crime figures are only a fraction of what the police have to manage. So all this talk from the govt is nothing more than lies.
They want G4S to be a stakeholder in policing, and they will get their way. Eventually, PCSO's will go and be replaced by G4S security guards, who will be cheap. Pay peanuts get monkeys. They dont want policing to be a career anymore, they will have people on short term 5 or 10 yr contracts, treat them like shit and hope they leave. Then replace them.
What will happen is the sort of terrible policing we see in America will creep in here, because the 'officers' will be stupid and cheap. Look at how G4S botched the Olympics, it was shambolic. That is the future, and people who jump to knock the police now - and there are loads- will look back nostalgically.

There is apparently no conflict of interest with Theresa May's husband having sustantial shares in G4S.

Be careful what you wish for. Privatising such a complex area of public services will not end well. You cannot police effectively when you are influenced by profits
