I think you are right. In the second part of his tenure Wenger made an art out of optimizing the profit of the company by investing just enough to qualify for the Champions League and the big income, but not enough to really compete for the title. So in a way Arsenal has been a well working money machine, but really at the cost of betraying the sport football, as they to an extent sacrificed competitiveness for profit. We are a sustainable club which has been in profit for four years. We make our money the same way as everyone else from TV, gate receipts, and commercial sponsors. In fact Arsenal receive more money from the Middle East via Emirates than we get from Etihad. The Sheikh has trebled his original investment. So, after the initial infrastucture investment, we have earned every penny we make from our onfield success.
Bayern's business model, and to a lesser extent Juve's, is built from exploiting other clubs in their respective leagues by holding them to ransom and taking all their best players. Bayern are a disgrace and that's why they are despised by all other German fans.
Arsenal have milked their own fans for every penny they can take and give to their rich owners. Unlike City they have invested virtually nothing into their local community. City have built schools and affordable homes. Arsenal added to the gentrification of Islington by building luxury flats at Highbury. They have driven away a lot of their working class fans. The business structure at Arsenal is also a disgrace.
And Bayern's President kept his job despite being jailed for tax evasion and fraud. What a financial role model for the rest of the world to follow but don't forget they have earned their money unlike us! We're not owned by Abu Dhabi though (or even Qatar for that matter), you'd think at some stage even the least intelligent football supporters would have realised that.No. They do not get bankrolled by massive German corporations. They sold 25 % of their shares in the past to this companies. And their is "just" a little difference between owning a 7.5 % share without controlling rights from companies that are responsible to their shareholders than a country like Abu Dhabi, even if nobody here seems to accept that. I do not know if that is lack of financial knowledge or simply ignorance.

And no - Hoeneß has not been president during his time he was jailed for tax evasion. But he is again after he has paid the whole amount plus a very high fine and after he has done his time in jail. He was not jailed for fraud etc. of company money but for his private taxes. And - a status the fans acknowledge - he has been the one who has brought the club from difficult times after the big generation of the 70s faded and the club had big liablilities to what they are today. He has made mistakes - and if he would not have the history with the club who somehow is his "baby" - the story for sure would be different. But the fans see both - the mistakes he made in private life but what he has done for the club when he was actively leading the club (what he does not do anymore since 2009). That is why they voted him back into presidency. Blame the fans...
